FutureStarrWhat Is a Duvet Coveror
A pillow case that covers a single- or double-sized mattress. A duvet covers usually is made of three layers of fabric that are reversable and removable. One layer is a quilted bottom, a second is a quilted top and the last layer is a plain piece of fabric such as cotton. Since duvets are thick and warm, they are often used as bedding on cold winter nights.
Duvet covers are designed to fit the standard mattress sizes—twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. In the United States, these mattress dimensions are standard. However, comforter sizes are not. For example, a queen size mattress measures 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. A queen size comforter can measure anywhere between 86 to 88 inches wide, and 96 to 100 inches long. Therefore, it is a good idea to measure your comforter before purchasing a duvet cover. King size beds are starting to become more popular in many homes these days because of its 76” x 80” size. This type of bed requires a large space to fit in. Just to give you an idea of the size of the king bed, it is the same size as two twin XL beds. The standard king duvet measures 104” x 90”, which is an excellent size to cover a king bed.
As a rule, you’ll want to purchase a duvet at least 12 inches longer and 16 inches wider than your bed. If you have an extra-deep mattress, are using a fluffy mattress pad or have a partner that’s always stealing the sheets, you may want to size up even more. Sizing up with your insert and using a smaller duvet cover gives your bed a fluffier look, but if you like a flatter, smoother-looking bed, opt for a cover and insert that are the same size. If you’re the type of person who likes change, a new duvet cover—or a rotating array of styles—can breathe new life into your bedroom, without the need to redecorate. If you don’t like the modern look of a typical duvet, you can borrow the more opulent look of an overhanging comforter by choosing a size up for your duvet cover and insert. Another perk: duvet covers are compact when folded, and take up less space than full bedding sets, so that your linen closet can accommodate a variety of design moods. (Source: www.moderndane.com)
