Midwest Prairie

Welcome to the Midwest Prairie blog! This blog is dedicated to growing sustainable, self-reliant food systems in the Midwest! Just recently, the Midwest prairie region has seen the rise in the average yield of corn increasing from 168 gallons to 165 gallons per acre. Along with the increase of acres planted, farmers are also moving towards clearing land for a diverse range of crops. In the U.S., the area is constituted by most or all of the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma, and sizable parts of the states of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and western and southern Minnesota. The Palouse of Washington and the Central Valley of California are also prairies. The Canadian Prairies occupy vast areas of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. Prairies contain various lush flora and fauna, often contain rich soil maintained by biodiversity, with a temperate climate and a varied view.

Hello, and thank you for taking a moment to check us out. At Midwest Prairies, LLC, we focus on restoring the habitats and ecosystems of southern Wisconsin including the rural areas around Madison, Janesville, Beloit, Whitewater, Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, East Troy, Delevan, Lake Geneva, Burlington and places further afield when customers demand it. Our work is as much art as science. Learning about how to live with nature and manage land in a way that is beneficial to nature and people is a never-ending quest. It is fascinating and frustrating. It is challenging and rewarding. But most of all it is incredibly satisfying. As we learn about the land and the plants and animals that abide there, we also learn about ourselves. We find that even though we have to live with all the frustrations that life brings, this is one place where we can make a concrete difference – for the land, for ourselves and for future generations.
