How Many Quarter Cups in a Cup

It's the big question of our skeptical days: how many quarter cups in a cup? I'm joking - don't come to me. This is where Google typically comes in and seemingly, it's always wrong. Sure, they'll be off by 1/10ths or 1/100ths, but they can't seem to decide if it's 1/2 or 2/3. Some argue for 4/2 and others for 3/4.

Cup

If you have divided a cup into quarters, this means that you've separated it into four equal parts. These equal parts are also known as quarter cups. When you have three-quarters of the cup, this includes three of these four equal parts. A standard cup consists of 8 fluid ounces.

If you divide each cup into 12ths the three fourths is 9/12 while the 2/3 is 8/12 so the 3/4 is 1/12 larger than the 2/3. So 2/4 cups would go under 2/3 cups and 3/4 cups would go over 2/3 cups. (Source: answersdrive.com)

Equal

16 ounces equals one pound or two cups. Another way to look at the equivalent is that one cup weighs eight ounces and therefore two cups equal 16 ounces and this is the same weight of one pound--16 ounces.

Add

Measure half of 3/4 cup sugar by using a tablespoon. The number of tablespoons that adds up to 3/4 cup is 12, so divide 12 in half and add 6 tablespoons of sugar to your recipe for half of 3/4 cup. Use a tape measure or ruler to calculate the height of the 3/4 cup you're using.

Dry measuring cups hold the exact amount of your ingredient. When using dry measuring cups, you need to spoon the ingredient into the cup and then level it off. This prevents you from accidentally packing down the dry ingredient and adding too much to your recipe. (Source: www.reference.com)
