Home Song

And the farmers would put the seeds in the earth and water it, and soon there would be a field of green. And this song would start to grow on the hills of the world. And its sound would ring out like a bird or a lark in the sky. And the people would say we're happy we're living in a world where we can see the earth and we can see the sky, and we can feel the home song. The sound of my buddy's footsteps outside's ringing in my head.

Homesong » Simple Things Done With Care

Last week I showed you Stella’s room and all the clean and simple design choices she and I made for that space, and today we are focusing in on Matilda’s room and how I hope to make her nursery look and feel. Cue English cottage vibes with a hefty side of New England garden vibes in the springtime, and you’ve got one gorgeous room for one lucky little bird. I love rooms for kids that aren’t focused on themes and/or characters. With all the toys kids have, I don’t feel there’s a need to go over the top, but rather, soften everything by making a simple canvas that creates a calm environment. Designing this space brought me so much joy!

" Home on the Range"

Loading cattle at Joseph McCoy's stock yard, Abilene, Kansas, 447 miles west of St. Louis, Mo. One of the first western "railheads," or terminus points, allowing cattle to be shipped to eastern markets was located at Abilene, Kansas, near the northernmost point on the Chisholm Trail. The cattle trade provided the route for the song "Home on the Range" to be spread among western states by cowboys who learned it in Kansas.
