Top 10 running backs

Top 10 running backs

The top 10 running backs in the NFL

NFL head coach and play caller are always keen to grasp if running backs are a crucial part within the game. the flexibility for a back to affect the passing is now of utmost importance, and this is often reflected in how these players are ranked below. Rookie players haven't been included during this list or my top 25 list. The list includes the highest 10 running backs heading into the 2020 season. the highest 10 NFL players within the top 25 are ranked by McCharell, who was drafted as often within the first round.

Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers

PFF WAR names the highest back within the NFL prior to the 2020 NFL season. Christian McCaffrey was rewarded a record-setting four-year, $64 million accommodate the Panthers this summer. He's one in all the most effective running backs within the league since joining the NFL in 2017. He scored 1,387 rushing and 1,005 receiving yards and 15 rushing TDs on 287 carries last year. His 135 first downs and touchdowns as a receiver are 38 quite the second-place Alvin Kamara. He has seen 388 targets in his NFL career, and he has dropped just nine of them.

Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers' Aaron Jones has never had a foul year within the NFL. Jones has earned a PFF grade of a minimum of 75.6 overall and 79.6 as a rusher in four straight seasons. His 90.5 rushing grade since 2017 ranks second among all backs with 250 or more carries, trailing only Chubb. Jones is already the third back from the loaded 2017 draft class to crack this list, and like Kamara, he's still trying to find that second contract.

Saquon Barkley, New York Giants

Saquon Barkley is one in every of the foremost talented running backs within the NFL. He has been affected by injuries within the past and injuries limited his production in 2019. He will be an all-time great and a top back for years to come back, especially in pass protection. Barkley was the league's leading runner in 2018, but was limited to only 1,441 yards from scrimmage in 2019 season. The the big apple Giants back scored four rushing touchdowns in his last three games of the season.

Top 10 Running Backs

Maurice Jones-Drew will survey all running backs and rank his top 10 weekly. His rankings are supported this season's efforts alone. Gary Kubiak, Gary Cook and Alvin Kamara are the NFL's all-around back this year. Henry Henry is that the eighth player in NFL history to achieve 2,000 rushing yards during a season. Gary Johnson was the centerpiece of Kubiak's offense, further proving he was worth every penny of the contract extension he signed in September.

Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns

Nick Chubb has the simplest broken tackle rate within the NFL over the last two seasons, with 124 broken tackles on 488 carries. His 92.0 rushing grade since entering the NFL out of Georgia is that the highest mark within the league. Chubb led the league last season with 20 carries of 15 yards or more for 574 total yards. Only two of the Cleveland Browns' running backs ran for more yards than Chubb last year. The Browns have options like Kareem Hunt and Duke Johnson Jr. within the passing play but haven't been used extensively therein area.

Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings

Cook is that the closest thing to Henry in terms of a back outperforming expectations within the NFL. The Vikings back has earned a PFF rushing grade of 90.9 over the last two seasons. Cook finished 10th within the league with 1,135 rushing yards in 2019, fourth with 13 touchdowns. the most important roadblock is Cook's injury history, but he's only played in 28 games in his three-year career. Cook's forced missed tackle rate of twenty-two.4% ranks fourth among 28 running backs with 500 or more touches over the past three seasons.

Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans

The NFL's leading rusher in 2019 has 2,758 yards after contact since the beginning of the 2019 season. Henry leads the NFL's back list with 88.6 rushing grade over the last two years. Over his entire career, he averages 5.82 yards per carry when Tennessee is twiddling with a lead. Henry is ranked sixth on the list but is proscribed to merely four years of his NFL career. His receiving grade has are available in below 50.0 in each of the past three seasons.

Former NFL rushing leader and current NFL Network analyst Maurice Jones-Drew will survey all running backs and rank his top 10 weekly of the 2020 season. His rankings are supported this season's efforts alone. Here is MJD's end-of-the-season list.

Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints · Year 4

Kamara did not play in Week 17 after testing positive for COVID-19, but the Saints are optimistic he'll return for Sunday's game against the Bears. He finished the regular season as the team's leader in receiving yards (756) on a career-high 83 catches, and he also ran for a career-high 932 yards. I love the way Sean Payton utilized his star running back by spreading his workload across the run and pass games to limit his exposure to big hits. Kamara was as effective in 2020 as he was in his breakout rookie season, which is exactly what the Saints need if they intend to finally get back to the big game.

Jonathan Taylor

As mentioned above, Taylor's impressive last half has catapulted him up the rankings hebdomadally. Since Week 11, his 741 rush yards are the second-most within the league behind only Derrick Henry (1,081). I expect the rookie to continue this kind of production against even a number of the most effective defenses within the playoffs.

David Montgomery

Chicago Bears · Year 2

2020 stats: 15 games | 247 att | 1,070 rush yds | 4.3 ypc | 8 rush TDs | 54 rec | 438 rec yds | 2 rec TDs

Montgomery has played a large part in Chicago's offensive turnaround within the half of the season, averaging 99.7 rush yards per game since Week 12 (third within the NFL in this span). because of his second-half surge, Montgomery has recorded career highs in barely about every major rushing category and finished tied for fifth within the league in rushing yards.

James Robinson

Jacksonville Jaguars · Year 1

2020 stats: 14 games | 240 att | 1,070 rush yds | 4.5 ypc | 7 rush TDs | 49 rec | 344 rec yds | 3 rec TDs

Robinson didn't even play the ultimate two games of the season and still finished within the top five in rushing yards (tied with Montgomery). If you would've told me at the start of the season that he'd join Jonathan Taylor because the only rookies within the top five, i would not have believed you. But kudos to the undrafted rookie for having one helluva season.

Josh Jacobs

Las Vegas Raiders · Year 2

2020 stats: 15 games | 273 att | 1,065 rush yds | 3.9 ypc | 12 rush TDs | 33 rec | 238 rec yds | 0 rec TDs

Jacobs proved his rookie performance was no fluke when rushing for 1,065 yards and a career-high 12 rushing TDs in 2020. It's no surprise then that Jacobs has remained the middle of Jon Gruden's let-it-fly offense. He's an even runner between and out of doors the tackles and is deserving of another top-10 finish
