Vervain is more than a beauty company; it’s an online community of women. When you spend money on Vervain products, you’re not just getting beauty—you’re helping to build a community. We’ve put together a few ideas on how to create an emotionally-engaging email for this community. For a long time, some people have believed that verbena tea has a calming effect that can help relieve stress and promote sleep. The 1652 book, "The English Physician," first described how vervain tea treated "over-enthusiasm." Treating infectious diseases has become increasingly challenging because of growing antibiotic resistance. Vervain has long been used to treat upper respiratory and urinary tract infections. It may have antimicrobial effects that could help overcome these challenges.
A 2016 study validates the importance of vervain for oral health. Patients with chronic gingivitis (a gum disease) were asked to brush and floss their teeth and rinse their mouths with a vervain mouthwash. Results showed those who used the mouthwash had lower scores of Gingival Index and Plaque Index. This indicates the improvement in the condition after using the vervain mouthwash (6).Vervain is also known as American Blue Vervain and Simpler's Joy. This plant is in the Plant Family Verbenacea, but not to be confused with Lemon Verbena (Aloysia triphylla). These are two different plants only belonging to the same Plant Family. Vervain is indigenous to the United States growing naturally along roadsides and tall grassy fields flowering between June and September. It is a tall (3-4 feet), slender, elegant, perennial plant with opposing leaves which are lobed and serrated in shape and have small purplish-blue flowers. Historically it was listed for use by King's American Dispensatory as, tonic, emetic, expectorant, and sudorific. A Sudorific is a substance that causes or increases sweating. It is a plant that is overlooked by modern herbalists, but one that deserves renewed interest for its versatile influences on numerous systems.
The vervain plant is a lesser-known herbal remedy, but it has a lengthy history of medicinal use when it comes to a variety of systems in the body. In traditional herbal medicine, it has been used to treat headaches, insomnia, depression, anxiety, kidney stones, gout, jaundice and more. It also has been used to improve lactation for nursing mothers and as a natural treatment for painful menstruation. Is there actually any science to back up using a vervain mouthwash to boost gum health? In fact, there is. A double-blind randomized clinical trial published in 2016 looked at the effects of a vervain decoction (basically a vervain mouthwash) on patients with chronic generalized gingivitis, which is a form of gum disease. The subjects all brushed and flossed their teeth. The test group also rinsed their mouths with the vervain mouthwash. The results were impressive — the vervain test group decreased their scores on both the Gingival Index (GI) and Plaque Index (PI), which is a good thing since the lower the scores on these indexes, the healthier the gums. Overall, the results indicated to the researchers vervain’s ability to improve chronic generalized gingivitis with no negative side effects. (9) (Source:draxe.com)
