Garden

We are Britain’s largest “Prairie,” or “Naturalistic,” garden, with eight acres of stunning garden to roam around. Unlike most gardens of a comparable size, we have no castle or stately home! We designed and planted the garden ourselves, on Pauline’s family farm in West Sussex. Instead of armies of servants and gardeners, we planted all 35 000 plants with help of amazing friends and family!a corporate retreat, or a company picnic, it is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience. The Farm features more attractions than you’ll have time to visit, including a petting zoo full of cute animals, a corn maze to lose yourself in, easy-going wagon rides, roasting campfires, and an endless lineup of seasonal activities. Not just for families and kids, the Farm is an elegant destination for gourmet dining and unique teambuilding adventures.

Surrounded by mature oak trees, the 8 acre garden consists of a series of arced borders planted in the naturalistic style. Chicago State University is helping reverse this trend by planting native prairie plants in its 3.5-acre prairie garden and bird habitat. The over 80 native grasses, flowering plants, trees and shrubs provide the habitat needed for native butterflies (including monarchs) and birds. These plants also help the community by removing pollutants from the air and by utilizing their deep root systems, flooding is reduced because native plants absorb more water than turf grass. Prairie Gardens and grasses have come into fashion over recent years probably inspired by Piet Oudolf although before this Neil Lucas of Knoll Gardens in Dorset, was already winning medals for his grasses at the Chelsea Flower Show. There is no doubt that prairie gardens can look amazing also attracting insects and butterflies. (Source: www.greatbritishgardens.co.uk)
