Future Stars Gymnastics Competition

There’s nothing like seeing your child in a team competition to get you really invested. But when that competition is for the future stars of the sport of gymnastics alone, all bets are off.

Future Stars

The Future Stars Program is an athlete development and education program. The Future Stars Program consists of five age groups: 8-year-olds, 9-year-olds, 10-year-olds, 11-year-olds, and 12-year-olds, who perform selected skills and compulsory routines on the six men's events plus trampoline, strength and flexibility evaluations. The 8 and 9-year-old divisions participate up to the Regional level while the 10, 11, and 12-year old divisions can qualify to the National level.

The Junior National Development Team is determined through the use of a "Future Stars" National Championships/Evaluation held in the fall of each year. The competition targets the 10, 11, and 12-year old age groups of athletes and involves athletes being judged/evaluated on the six events using a basic skills compulsory routine composed of approximately ten basic skills elements placed together in routine form. In addition, there are events that involve evaluation on trampoline, flexibility, strength and body positions. The evaluations are done by a coach/Junior National Coaching Staff member and a NGJA judge working together to produce a score based on technique and execution. (Source: usagym.org)

The Future Stars program is intended to identify talented athletes exhibiting a strong caliber and quality participating in the JO Track (Levels 8, 9, & 10) and encourage their continuation and growth in Acrobatic Gymnastics program. Evaluation will occur annually at USA Gymnastics Championships and be completed by a Future Stars Committee. Future Stars athletes will be invited to attend a Future Stars Training Camp. This program will help to support both athletes and their coaches by providing dedicated training and education opportunities at this annual training camp. The goal is to recognize up-and-coming athletes and focus on developing skills to progress to the elite levels. This program does not include international competition opportunities.
