Cavalli fired off a fastball that registered at 90 mph and capped a three-run rally in the fifth to give the United States a 5-4 lead. The Americans pulled away for a 6-4 victory. Cavalli struck out three in his three innings to earn the victory. Lavarnway, who will represent the United States in the 2019 All-Star game in Washington, D.C. set the tone at the top of the second with a solo home run to center field.

Game

The game is played by the same rules listed in the Official Baseball Rules published by Major League Baseball. Exceptions are game duration and the handling of tie games. From 2008 through 2018, games lasted 9 innings. From 1999 to 2007 and since 2019, games last seven innings. Through 2018, up to two extra innings were available to settle a tie after playing all regulation innings. In 2019 and since 2021, one extra inning may be played, with each half-inning starting with a runner at second base, the last player put out. The home team wins if they take the lead in the 7th or 8th inning; the visitors win if they hang on in either inning; the game is over if it is tied after eight.

Two pitchers from the Dylan Bundy trade, righties Kyle Bradish and Isaac Mattson, started and finished this game, and both struggled. Bradish was chased after four innings in which he walked four batters, struck out five, and surrendered two runs on three hits. Bradish, ranked the Orioles’ #12 prospect by MLB Pipeline, now has a 5.04 ERA and 5.2 walks per nine in 12 starts at Triple-A. Safe to say he’s a work in progress. Still, the Tides held the lead in the seventh until Lewin Diaz (who homered against the Orioles just last week) tied the game with an RBI single, and Mattson surrendered three runs in the eighth to lose it. He’s got a 9.53 ERA in 14 games at Norfolk. (Source: www.camdenchat.com)
