One of the most important resume skills is actually related to self-promotion or marketing. If you don’t know how to promote yourself, it will be hard to get to the top of the career ladder.

Consider organizing your employment history into two different categories — "Relevant Employment" and "Other Employment" — if you have numerous jobs that make your résumé longer than one page. Keep the "Relevant Employment" section on the first page. Keep in mind, of course, that too much detail can increase the length of a résumé. Employers do not always take time to read the second pages of résumés, so your first page should highlight your most important information. Also, be sure to put your most relevant experience and educational details as close to the top of the first page as possible.

When it comes to computer science and IT, there are a wide variety of programming languages that are vital to know. Using these languages, you may code in instructions, design frameworks, and software solutions for your organization. There are some important programming languages you should be comfortable with and list on your résumé to let hiring managers know you have the technical expertise to be impactful in their organization. Highlighting your proficiency in multiple programming languages shows you're ready for the job and capable of learning other languages as well. (Source: www.wgu.edu)

Learn

In addition to learning on the job, seek out mentoring opportunities from a senior researcher. This professional can help you learn new skills in the lab while giving you insight into the purpose and direction of your lab work. If you develop a good relationship with your mentor, they may even help you network and introduce you to other professionals in your field. Mentoring is a valuable tool for gaining additional skills and career connections.

A summary is also great when you’ve transitioned into data science from another field. And the best resume summaries are catchy. A favorite summary we’ve seen started with “I am an architect that got into studying data science as kind of weird mid-life crisis.” The recruiter will surely want to learn more! Know

C# is a general, multipurpose language designed for Microsoft platforms. It requires the .NET framework on Windows to work. C# is considered a hybrid of Java, C++ and C languages. C# is quickly becoming an extremely popular coding language, and putting it on your résumé shows the hiring manager that you’re up-to-date on new and popular languages. Since it’s a combination of other languages, employers can assume you know or can learn other languages quickly.

Knowing the technical stuff often doesn’t cut it. As a data scientist’s role in the company is key, you will need to show you can handle the responsibility and deliver quality work.KDnuggets lists a few important soft skills, and we’ve added a couple more: (Source: enhancv.com)

Highlight

Education: Include educational details with your most recent education first. List any post-secondary degrees, whether or not they relate to the data science role (some Data Scientist positions may require a degree in any field). Include your degree type, major/minor, school name, and date of graduation. Also, list any courses or certifications you received outside of college or university. You can also highlight relevant coursework, academic achievements, scholarships, and extracurricular activities.

Data science resumes should include technical skills that are relevant to the position you are applying for. A good strategy is to first list all your data science skills, including any software and tools. Next, review the job description and highlight the skills that are required in the role. In your resume, list skills that match those in the description. You can also add a few additional skills that you think are related or relevant, or that will help you stand out.
