In just six weeks, Saddle Creek implemented a highly configurable, cost-effective warehouse management solution. A full RF solution, which includes mobile wearable RF technology, gives users hands-free capability to handle the single-shoe units that are being processed to the stores and directly to the end customer through the retailer’s ecommerce portal. Full data integration with the retailer’s multiple business units allows the continuous flow of data to and from their host system to the Saddle Creek WMS. Saddle Creek now fulfills 80 percent of the retailer’s total orders, supporting all of their stores nationwide in either a primary or secondary capacity. In addition to store replenishment, the 3PL also manages the entire ecommerce channel and new store-set programs and all specialty store-support functions such as returns and seasonal resets for the entire nationwide footprint. The solution has resulted in significant gains in customer service and order cycle times. The retailer views Saddle Creek as an extension of its supply chain team and values their involvement in strategic planning and continuous improvement.

Operating under the German-based ownership of The Deichmann Group, one of the largest privately owned footwear retailers in the world with 3,600 global locations, Lardie continues to take proactive steps to execute an aggressive strategy of growth for both brands. During the next two years, the company will add 40 to 50 new Rack Room Shoes locations and 10 new Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse locations to the current mix of 420 Rack Room Shoes stores and 80 Off Broadway Shoes stores nationwide. Lardie also mentioned the future prospect of acquisition to increase the company’s buying power and visibility.

To kickstart its digital drive, Rack Room Shoes developed online storefronts for its ‘Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse’ and ‘Rack Room Shoes’ footwear brands, which initially ran on an on-premise deployment of SAP Hybris. To further enhance the experience for its customers, Rack Room Shoes migrated this to a hybrid cloud environment, running SAP on Google Cloud Platform. This made it easier to roll out new functionality and improve site usability, by integrating its storefront with additional platforms and services. However, while this boosted sales, it also led to increased complexity and made it difficult to maintain full-stack observability, hindering Rack Room Shoes’ ability to offer seamless customer experiences.
