In February, publisher James Brundage declared that “No other city in the world so effectively embodies and divides American culture as Miami and Los Angeles”. With that proclamation, he started a debate that is nothing short of two cities battling for cultural supremacy.

Time

Miami prospered during the 1920s with an increase in population and development in infrastructure as northerners moved to the city. The legacy of Jim Crow was embedded in these developments. Miami's chief of police at the time, H. Leslie Quigg, did not hide the fact that he, like many other white Miami police officers, was a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Unsurprisingly, these officers enforced social codes far beyond the written law. Quigg, for example, "personally and publicly beat a colored bellboy to death for speaking directly to a white woman". After Fidel Castro rose to power in Cuba following the Revolution in 1959, many wealthy Cubans sought refuge in Miami, further increasing the city's population. Miami developed new businesses and cultural amenities as part of the New South in the 1980s and 1990s. At the same time, South Florida weathered social problems related to drug wars, immigration from Haiti and Latin America, and the widespread destruction of Hurricane Andrew.

Other major newspapers include Miami Today, headquartered in Brickell, Miami New Times, headquartered in Midtown, Miami Sun Post, South Florida Business Journal, Miami Times, and Biscayne Boulevard Times. An additional Spanish-language newspapers, Diario Las Americas also serve Miami. The Miami Herald is Miami's primary newspaper with over a million readers and is headquartered in Downtown in Herald Plaza. Several other student newspapers from the local universities, such as the oldest, the University of Miami's The Miami Hurricane, Florida International University's The Beacon, Miami-Dade College's The Metropolis, Barry University's The Buccaneer, amongst others. Many neighborhoods and neighboring areas also have their own local newspapers such as the Aventura News, Coral Gables Tribune, Biscayne Bay Tribune, and the Palmetto Bay News. Cons: "The flight attendant taught he was funny but he was not to me. I eent to the restroom the the same flight attendant poke me to get him stuff from the back for him twice while he was seating at his seat. He gave 7 bottles of Jack Daniel to two young ladies without even asking for ID. They got drunk and starting pushing my friends seat several time while she was sleeping. Five hour flight and had to withstand this two ladies and the flight attendant seems yo not be helping by giving more alcohol and encouraging them. Will not reccomend american airline to my friends."I made a check in at the gate due to taking a connection flight bougth separatedly. The lady in the front desk was very rude, she asked me to fill in my info in the Verifly app, otherwise she couldnt check me in. I was in a rush dowloading the app, once I downloaded this one didnt work...it didnt let me select any option or to write any info. I asked her if she can help me and she told me she couldnt, it is Verifly or I would loose my flight At the end another lady from the airline told her this was nos necessary, and show her how to do it. But all the time they were very unkind, as if they were giving me the flight with no cost........ (Source: www.kayak.com)

Cons: "For starters...um ranch pretzel snacks? Weirdest snack ever and so tiny it was ridiculous. It took about an hour after take off to get the snack, and almost another full hour to get the drink. Too slow!! The seats are very cramped compared to jet blue. I paid a lot of money for direct TV thinking I could start a movie from the start. You can't, and there wasn't a thing on TV that I wanted to watch. On other flights for the same amount of money you can buy a premium current movie. Or you can fly JetBlue and get the TV free. One of the flight attendants, bless him, was mentally challenged, and I mean literally. He was sweet and it's nice he has a job, but he didn't know what I was talking about when I asked him if I was on a flight that had an onboard library of movies once you connected to the airplane wifi. It was frustrating trying to talk to him. I had onboard a purse to stow under my seat, and another purse, that was brand new that I needed to stow overhead. I asked another flight attendant to help me stow it overhead where it wouldn't get crushed. She showed me a spot where it was pretty much getting crushed. Since it was new, it would have been really nice if she put it in the nice closet that is usually up front on planes. I've been flying my whole life and once or twice I've been accommodated with the nice closet. That's all folks!"

Cons: "The fact that I was 3 minutes late to check my bag (due to a line and walking to the wrong counter the first time) and they would not allow me to go on my original flight and route my bag on another flight. This resulted in me and my bag getting pushed on two new flights and my overall travel time going from 4.5 hrs to 11 hrs which with a 15 month old is an eternity. Many other airlines will allow you to make exceptions when checking in late (I was still nearly 40 minutes prior to flight departure) and let me still check a bag OR allow me and my baby to stay on the same flight without the bag."
