I write to defend my vision of what’s possible. When we make something and put it out there, it’s really more of a battle cry. When something of yours has been made and put out there, you’re upsetting somebody. I love upsetting people.

Last month, the actors — who became fast friends when starring on the Syfy series as doomed hero Quentin Coldwater and stoner chef Josh Hoberman — produced and starred in a new play called The Great Filter that was presented live for three nights only (July 1 through July 3) and sold out each show. The project is a partnership between Scrap Paper Pictures, the production company created by Ralph’s wife, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Looks Like A Great Time, the brand, lifestyle, and media company founded last year by Ralph and Einhorn, and NY Forever, a non-profit devoted to New York’s post-Covid recovery. Jason Ralph received a DPhil degree from the University of Sussex (UK) in 1993, and a BSc in Physics with Mathematics from the University of Southampton (UK) in 1989. Between 1992 and 1996 he was employed as a Research Fellow at the University of Sussex (UK), the Scuola Normale Superiore (Pisa, Italy), and the University of Auckland (New Zealand). He worked for the UK Defence Evaluation and Research Agency between 1997 and 1999, a before taking up a Lecturer position in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics at the University of Liverpool (UK). He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2004, a Reader (Associate Professor) in 2007, and a Chair in 2013. He was Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics from 2012 to 2015. His research covers quantum technologies and quantum control, infrared imaging and image processing, guidance and navigation, and target tracking algorithms. Professor Ralph is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (UK), a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK), a member of the Royal Institute of Navigation (UK) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. In a joint statement, Scrap Paper’s Brosnahan, Simpson and Kahn said, “As live theater returns to New York, original, independent storytelling is essential to cultivate equity in NYC’s post-Covid creative ecosystem. So many great artists cut their teeth in an NYC black box.

The cultural fabric of NYC is shaped by the resourcefulness, dedication and grit of our downtown theater scene, and we are proud to be part of this moment of rebirth.“If you follow Jason Ralph or Trevor Einhorn on Instagram, you might notice a common refrain between the two “The Magicians” costars. “Looks like a great time,” Ralph commented on Einhorn’s post of a backgammon game, as well as on a post revealing the pair’s new Off-Broadway play, “The Great Filter,” debuting Thursday. Einhorn echoed the same sentiment on the majority of Ralph’s recent posts, with Ralph’s wife Rachel Brosnahan chiming in on a promo shot for the production: “Looks like a great filter.” (Source: wwd.com)
