The Future Stars Basketball Tournament 2017 revealed the future stars of the Minnesota basketball and raised more than $39,000 for our community. We are excited to provide the same positive impact in 2018.

Basketball

When Jan Vesely arrived to London to take part in 2008 Future Stars he was already recognised as a one of the most impressive talents in European Basketball. He led his Czech National team to an easy victory in the tournament, collecting the MVP Award in the process. His career exploded soon after when he become a very influential member of the European power-house BC Partizan Belgrade. He won the 2008-09 and 2009-10 Serbian National Championship, the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Serbian National Cup and also the 2009 and 2010 Adriatic League . In 2010 Vesely led his team to the Euroleague Final Four in Paris and also was presented the FIBA Europe Young Men’s Player of the Year Award.

The first Macker was presented in a Lowell, Mich., driveway by brothers Scott and Mitch McNeal on spring break in 1974 with 16 friends making up six, three-player teams. It grew in fun and numbers into a neighborhood festival and eventually a phenomenon launched to national fame by a July 8, 1985 story in Sports Illustrated by Alexander Wolff. In 1987 Gus Macker Basketball expanded from a single tournament to a national tour. (Source: www.macker.com)

Team

Led by Jared Sullinger on the sideline and Evan Turner as general manager, the Ohio State alumni squad will be considered one of the favorites to cut down the nets. On the court, the team will be led by 2019 MVP William Buford, the leading scorer of the 2019 championship game, David Lighty, and Aaron Craft, who opted into one final run before he pursues a medical career.

The Purdue alumni team will likely give their first-round opponent, the Ballinteers, fits with their size, as they sport former NBA talent Robbie Hummel and two 7-footers, Isaac Haas and A.J. Hammons. Beyond the Boilermaker big three, Purdue Fort Wayne alum Frank Gaines will provide valuable offensive punch after leading Italy in scoring this past season. (Source: www.espn.com)
