To take up this career, you need to possess certain vital skills and talents, like hands-on training in the field of transcription, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong medical knowledge, a flair to learn new concepts, and a certification in the relevant field of work. Minimum education needed to apply for this role is a Bachelor’s Degree in Language, Arts, Science, or Medicinal Sciences. Several years of relevant work experience is also mandatory.

Remember that if you’re earlier work experience wasn’t in medical transcription, keep the resume short and try and focus on things that are related to medical transcription such as typing, computer work, scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, handling incoming and outgoing mail, organize and schedule meetings, work independently and without need for on-site supervision, etc. when listing your description.

Although, honestly, I don't know why transcription companies require a resume. It honestly doesn't say anything about your skill. My company does a paid test. I give the candidate a 5-10 minute piece of audio and pay a small fee for them to transcribe it. Usually, this is something that's already done and to the client. When they send it back, I make my decision on whether or not to take them on. I've had tons of people send over fantastic resumes, but then when they do the sample, it's horrible. I also have people on my team with absolutely no experience in transcription or anything even related and they are excellent.
