Dancing is an excellent way to develop fitness, agility, and self-control, as well as an ancient practice with roots deeply embedded in traditional culture.

Dance

Dennis started dancing when he was 17 years old. He began teaching for Grose School of Dance in Charlotte shortly thereafter. He has been teaching cotillions for 40 years and has taught Junior Assembly in Gastonia for 28 years. Dennis’ professional career started at Carowinds and quickly led him to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and dancing with Dick Van Dyke on television specials. He has choreographed and performed in shows throughout the Southeast for 35 years.

We have one of our own representing Gaston County Schools in the annual "Dancing for Future Stars" competition hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Gaston. Dr. Shelly Bullard, executive director for K-8 Instruction, is one of nine participants competing for the mirror ball trophy while raising money for the Boys and Girls Club. Funds will go toward after-school and summer programs for children and youth. The competition is Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Gaston County Club. Click here for more information. Girl

Rachael volunteers at Gaston Family Health Services, Girls on the Run, and is honored to be asked to participate for the Boys and Girls Club. She also serves on the Heart Society of Gaston County Board, Leadership Gaston Board, Gastonia East Rotary, Jaycees, and is President of the Piedmont Optometric Society. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, exercising, and spending time with her husband, Brad (also an optometrist).

Her sense of community has led her to hold positions on countless other Boards and organizations including Rotary International, Boys and Girls Clubs of Gaston County “Dancing for Future Stars” fundraising event, City of Gastonia Citizens Public Art Committee, Hospice of Gaston County, and many, many more.
