Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin was relieved of his duties on Monday evening, just 13 months after taking the job. The replacement was named as defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, who led the team to a 10-4 overall record and the BCS Championship game. Steele is quite familiar with the job, having served in the same capacity for Maryland from 2010-13 and having been Tennessee’s head coach in 2009.

It never made sense on any level why Auburn hired Bryan Harsin last year. His seven-year run at Boise State was good, but not amazing. He’d never been in the SEC. He’d spent just two years as an assistant at a Power Five program. And dropping him into an environment like Auburn, which favors the extreme end of the SEC crazy spectrum, was riskier than a plate of undercooked turkey.

Bryan Harsin’s name has been linked to the opening at Washington this month, with outlets like FootballScoop citing sources reporting the first-year Auburn coach either has interest or is of interest in the Huskies’ search. Harsin addressed those rumors after his team’s regular season ended with a 24-22 loss to rival Alabama in quadruple-overtime. (Source: www.al.com)

Game

“I’m always committed to what I’m doing,” Harsin said “We’re just coming off a tough game. I came to Auburn for a reason. Look at the history of my coaching career. This isn’t about me; this is about my team tonight. We played a good football team. We didn’t win. I’m disappointed. Our players are disappointed. I care more about what they think, and we got to take care of those guys.
