A Georgia Ski Resort

Georgia Ski Resort

Near Davenport, Georgia, lies one of the premier skiing destinations in the Southeast. Addela Ski Resort is known for its 27 runs ranging from beginner to expert downhills, along with its 2,200-foot vertical drop and 90 skiable acres. Reservations are required.

Located in Mestia, 600 metres from Museum of History and Ethnography, Mountain Cabins provides accommodation with a restaurant, free private parking, a bar and a shared lounge. The accommodation offers ski-to-door access and ski storage space, as well as a garden and barbecue facilities. The inn features garden views, a terrace, a 24-hour front desk, and free WiFi is available throughout the property.

From the top of the highest lift, a huge area on the backside of the mountain becomes accessible with a 2-30 minute walk. This area can only be skied by those with sufficient avalanche safety training and equipment, or with a guide. Here, fresh tracks can always be found on 1000-meter north-facing descents, ending at the highway where it’s possible to hitchhike or take a taxi back to town. (Source: www.journalofnomads.com)

The Gudauri ski resort is located on a south-facing plateau and thus guarantees particularly sunny slopes. International guests particularly appreciate the large difference in altitude of 1,300 metres with a maximum run length of 7.5 kilometres, as well as the endless possibilities for freeriders who want to feel fresh powder under their skis. What's more, unlike most ski resorts in the European Alpine region, there are virtually no queues at the lifts here.

These features all came together to create a great environment for ski resorts. The first ski resort in Georgia was already open in the early 1900s, and since then, many new places have opened too. The most well-known ski resorts in Georgia are Bakuriani and Gudauri. Gudauri is famous for its soft snow, long runs, and the beauty of the surrounding mountains. Bakuriani has always been known as the winter sports training center for athletes; here, you can find the steepest slopes, highly valued by professional skiers and snowboarders. There are two more ski chalets not far from Mestia, Khatsvali and Tetnuldi, that are becoming more and more popular. (Source: www.advantour.com)
