If you’re looking for a way to revamp your resume, the best resource out there is Reddit, thanks to its size, community, and history of sharing shiny, new things.

April 5, 2020 edit: I've been getting more PMs and messages about this post lately (like this awesome one last night sent to my company's IG), possibly from the historic layoffs in the US due to COVID–19. Whether or not that's the case for you, I sincerely hope this resume format helps you find a better job than you had going into this mess. In addition to having S&G help how we can, I'm going to do my best to answer Reddit PMs and emails that come in re: job hunting during April as people face this crisis. (Please at least edit your resume into my format below before asking me for a critique, as my first advice to anyone who hasn't will be to guide you to my format.) All my best to you and yours, and I hope you're all staying safe out there.

There was a recent post on Reddit where someone was lamenting that they had sent out dozens of applications, but hadn't heard back from anyone. I commented and told them they probably had a bad resume format and to PM me with it so I could review it for them, and about 50 other redditors ended up sending me their resumes to review. I don't have time to do all of them, so I decided to write this post and share a downloadable editable Word doc resume format in the hope that it fulfills my personal obligations (note: delete the footer before sending out!). Here's a preview of the resume. (Source: www.reddit.com)

If you ask the staff behind online resume builders, you will obviously be advised to use such a tool in order to land the job of your dreams. However, as much as we have no intentions in doubting the strengths of resume builders and what they have to offer, it is important to listen to the opinion of regular employees and job seekers. So with that said, it is time to explore what Reddit has to say about resume builders.

It is clear that brevity remains key. Despite, this being the general message to job applicants for some years now, many still believe this does not apply to them. At least three HR professionals attested to receiving CVs of 30 pages or more. Many others sagged under the weight of five pages plus. One to two pages seems to the optimum length desired. Perfumed applications are likely to find the journey to the shredder accelerated. Email has, thankfully, marginalized this odd enhancement. (Source: www.linkedin.com)
