Future All Star Games

The Future All Star Games was a 2+ hour promotional event for the Seattle Mariners on a crowded day at the ballpark. In partnership with Boston-based agency, Marlborough, we approached the Marlborough team that day and headed straight to the top to “coach” the announcers who were in the booth. All of the work and main elements of the show were formulated during one meeting, and it went extremely smoothly.

Game

The All-Star Futures Game is an annual baseball exhibition game hosted by Major League Baseball (MLB) in conjunction with the mid-summer MLB All-Star Game. A team of American League-affiliated prospects competes against a team of National League-affiliated prospects. From the inaugural 1999 event through 2018, teams of prospects from the United States faced off against teams of prospects from other countries.

The game is played by the same rules listed in the Official Baseball Rules published by Major League Baseball. Exceptions are game duration and the handling of tie games. From 2008 through 2018, games lasted 9 innings. From 1999 to 2007 and since 2019, games last seven innings. Through 2018, up to two extra innings were available to settle a tie after playing all regulation innings. In 2019 and since 2021, one extra inning may be played, with each half-inning starting with a runner at second base, the last player put out. The home team wins if they take the lead in the 7th or 8th inning; the visitors win if they hang on in either inning; the game is over if it is tied after eight. (Source: en.wikipedia.org)

League

The venue for each All-Star Game is chosen by an MLB selection committee. This choice may be made to commemorate a particular historical occasion, the opening of a new ballpark, or a significant milestone. The criteria for choosing the venue are subjective; for the most part, cities with new parks and cities who have not hosted the game in a long time – or ever – tend to be favored. The venues among the major league franchises: between 1964 and 2015, five teams hosted 3 times, 13 teams twice, ten teams once, and two teams not at all. The "home team" is the league in which the host franchise plays its games. Through the 2018 season, the American League has hosted 43 times, and the National League has hosted 46 times. Traditionally, the game alternates between the two leagues from year to year with six exceptions:

The New Yankee Stadium opened its doors to baseball fans in 2009 and the Yankees won a World Championship that same year. The last time the Yankees hosted the Mid-summer Classic was in 2008 when the team was playing its final season at the Old Yankee Stadium (1923-2008). If the New Yankee Stadium gets the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, then the Mid-Summer Classic would take place at the Yankees’ current home for the first time ever. The New Yankee Stadium has hosted multiple sporting events as it hosted one World Series, five American League Championship Series, and eight playoff appearances The venue is also the home of Major League Soccer’s New York City FC.
