It is also home to an array of flora and fauna. Common animals found here include coyotes, foxes, deer, and badgers.

The Grand Canyon is a natural wonder of the world

The Grand Canyon is one of the world's most beloved natural wonders, stretching 277 miles long and rising to a depth of 6,093 feet. Carved out by the Colorado River, this gorge offers breathtaking views.

The Canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an incredibly unique and stunning landscape. Constructed out of sedimentary rock and sandstone, its rocks have a texture, color, and appearance that cannot be replicated elsewhere on Earth.

Hiking, rafting, climbing and canyoneering enthusiasts will find this area to be a breathtaking paradise. Not only that but there are several side canyons that add even more beauty to the area.

Springtime is the ideal time to visit the Grand Canyon. Temperatures are cooler and there are fewer tourists around, making for clear skies with potential glimpses of Northern Lights!

When planning a trip to the Grand Canyon, it is best to reserve your tour dates ahead of time. That way, you can guarantee you get the dates desired and don't have to fret about weather issues!

There are a few ways to view the Grand Canyon, but by far the most impressive option is taking a helicopter tour. This will offer you an aerial perspective of all its highlights in one convenient trip.

Hiking is an ideal way to explore the Grand Canyon. You can go on day hikes or stay overnight and camp out in the canyon. Additionally, white water rafting trips and horseback tours offer unique perspectives of this natural wonder.

In addition to the Grand Canyon, there are other stunning natural landmarks around the world. These places are referred to as natural wonders due to their awe-inspiring qualities and offer visitors an unforgettable experience.

According to CNN and Cable News Network, seven natural wonders of the world have been selected for their incredible beauty, significance in statistical and traditional terms, uniqueness and rarity. Each wonder was assessed based on criteria including statistical significance, cultural importance and uniqueness.

It is a national park

The Grand Canyon is one of the largest and most beloved national parks in America, boasting incredible vistas, vibrant rock layers, as well as numerous recreation opportunities. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that draws millions of visitors annually.

In Arizona, near Williams and Flagstaff, is the National Park Service that was created by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919.

Over 4,926 square miles (1,217,262 acres) of land is protected by this reserve, featuring a dramatic gorge and series of waterfalls. Furthermore, it serves as home to various wildlife species.

The Grand Canyon was formed through a variety of geological processes, with both igneous and sedimentary rocks at its bottom layers dating back over two billion years.

This is an ideal destination for a family vacation, offering plenty of activities to enjoy. The park boasts numerous hiking trails, camping facilities and other attractions that will surely please everyone on your list.

No matter when you visit, the park is beautiful all year long. December is especially ideal as temperatures are mild and there are fewer crowds.

The National Park Service manages and protects this park for future generations, adhering to federal laws that guarantee its natural state for visitors.

In addition to being a popular tourist attraction, the Grand Canyon plays an integral role in American history and Western culture. Its majestic beauty has drawn visitors from around the globe since its formation in 1919.

Explore the park by horseback or on foot with mule pack trips and rafting down the Colorado River. Alternatively, take a helicopter ride or board an iconic railway for some breathtaking scenery.

Another popular activity is hiking to a waterfall that cascades from glowing orange sandstone cliffs into an inviting pool of turquoise water. Unfortunately, this waterfall lies within Havasupai Indian Reservation and requires advance reservations in order to access.

It is a tourist destination

The Grand Canyon has long been a sought-after tourist destination, boasting breathtaking natural features such as helicopter tours, bicycle rides along its rim and hikes below it. Plus, there are various museums within reach like Yavapai Geology Museum and Kolbs' Photography Studio.

The South Rim of the Grand Canyon is a popular tourist destination, boasting stunning views of the gorge and surrounding mountains. It also has numerous tourist attractions like Mather Point Lookout which provides stunning vistas of cliffs and trails below.

Visitors to the Grand Canyon have plenty of activities, from helicopter tours and hiking and biking tours to swimming and snorkelling. For those seeking more active adventures, there is also rafting, horseback riding and burro riding available nearby.

Another excellent destination is the IMAX Theater in Tusayan, just outside the South Entrance of the Grand Canyon. Here you'll find a variety of films about this natural wonder.

Explore the park on foot, by bike or with the shuttle bus. Alternatively, you can hire a car to drive along Hermit Road (from March 1 to November 30) during its seven mile length.

Experience the grandeur of the Grand Canyon through 3D displays and interpretive materials at the Yavapai Geology Museum. Enjoy stunning views of the Canyon as you learn its fascinating history and geological processes!

Other activities popular with tourists include taking a helicopter ride, walking along the rim, and watching sunrise or sunset over Canyon de Chelly. Unfortunately, these activities can be expensive so it is wise to budget accordingly.

If you want to experience the grandeur of the Grand Canyon up close, consider staying in a nearby town such as Sedona or Flagstaff. These cities provide numerous hotels and accommodations, making them perfect bases for day trips to the iconic natural feature.

It is a recreation area

The national park offers an abundance of recreational activities, such as hiking and camping. Furthermore, the park provides ranger programs and educational experiences for visitors.

The Grand Canyon is divided into three rims: South Rim, North Rim and East Rim. Of these three areas, South Rim is by far the most visited and easily accessible; shuttle buses run throughout the day to transport visitors to various lookouts for photo ops.

If you're seeking a quiet retreat, North Rim campgrounds might be worth considering. Though less popular than their southern counterparts, these sites provide an even more rugged experience and are just a short drive away from Tusayan's South Entrance Station.

Campers planning to spend at least one night in the backcountry should apply for a backcountry permit prior to starting their trip. The permit process involves an extensive review of your application.

Once approved, your backcountry permit gives you the freedom to camp in any area of your choosing. Each backcountry use area has its own characteristics and is divided into distinct categories based on size, overnight capacity and ecological sensitivity.

On the Park's website, you can find a map of backcountry use areas. These maps, which can be printed out at 7mb in size, outline trails, campsites and other recreation opportunities within each region.

There are plenty of hiking trails in the park, many of which can be accessed by car. One such trail is Bright Angel Trail which winds its way along the canyon's south rim.

For the more adventurous hiker, why not book a backpacking trip into the canyon? You'll likely need to make reservations for this activity, but it offers stunning views of the gorge.

Grand Canyon National Park also provides guests with a range of educational programs and field trips, from geology and ecology to wildlife tours.

If you want to discover more about the canyon, there are numerous ranger programs that run daily. These include history walks, Yavapai Geology tours, wildlife viewing and night sky tours as well as evening lectures.
