Meek eventually lost his travel permit, and Brinkley found him guilty of violating his probation by failing to report a trip to New York in 2012. She also cancelled Meek's parole and ordered him to take etiquette classes as punishment.

He was ultimately placed on probation for five violations. In each case, the judge cited various reasons for rescinding his probation: a failed drug test, failure to pay child support, violation of court-ordered travel restrictions and an arrest in St. Louis for allegedly "popping a wheelie" with an ATV (the incident which led to him initially being charged with reckless driving involving an ATV - a felony).

In 2017, a Pennsylvania appeals court overturned Meek's conviction and excluded Brinkley from his case. In April, prosecutors agreed with his legal team's request for a new trial after an officer who testified against him during the original trial was found discredited. At that time, Meek's lawyers claimed the officer had been involved in an illegal scheme to collect money from a drug dealer - this claim now forms the basis of their retrial.
