At Merrittt Junior College, he began taking business classes and soon earned a scholarship to the University of Houston. Unfortunately, an injury forced him to drop out of school - setting back his ambitions of making it in the NBA.

At that moment, he decided to use his $10,000 insurance payout for business ventures and opened No Limit Records & Tapes on San Pablo Avenue in Richmond, California with the money he'd made from street hustling for years.

In the beginning, No Limit sold mostly West Coast gangster rap albums. But P soon realized there was a demand for more funky, street-level beats; with this insight he launched No Limit as a record label in 1990.

Once his label was established, P turned his focus towards music production. He connected with local producers and started crafting his own tracks.
