Ty Gibbs: Finding His Rhythm at a Young Age

Ty Gibbs, the grandson of Coach Joe Gibbs, has already achieved great success at an early age. He's already a NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, ARCA East winner and has recently taken over for Kurt Busch after being sidelined due to concussion.

Last season in the Xfinity Series, Gibbs experienced some challenging moments - including two incidents at Martinsville Speedway that cost him and teammate Brandon Jones a chance at championship glory. But those experiences have served as learning experiences and motivation moving forward, something Gibbs says he strives to learn from and improve upon.

He’s a guitarist

Finding his rhythm at such a young age is no small feat for any driver, but Joe Gibbs' grandson hopes to make music in his NASCAR career. After an impressive finish to his Xfinity Series season, Gibbs looks set to join 23XI Racing this year as Kurt Busch's replacement in the Cup Series.

Gibbs has won three Xfinity poles and four races this season, making him a legitimate title contender. Unfortunately, he has yet to race in the Cup Series' new Next Gen car and only has one Top 10 finish out of 18 races this year.

At just 16, Gibbs has been given every chance in the sport to realize his aspirations. He's raced in garages and grandstands alike, all thanks to his father Coy who owns Joe Gibbs Racing.

He also enjoys the support of his grandfather, former NFL coach Joe Gibbs. Joe owns a successful racing program and is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame; under him, the Washington Redskins won three Super Bowls as well as earning five Cup Series championships and three Xfinity titles for their team.

Ty Gibbs comes from a powerful family in America, and there's immense pressure on him to live up to their legacy. But that isn't all he needs to learn - there is also plenty more for him to learn as well.

Becoming a professional racer comes with an immense learning curve, and much of that comes from mastering how to handle criticism that may come your way. You must find balance between being aggressive and keeping your head down - no easy feat for any driver!

In his Xfinity Series debut in February, Gibbs caused some stir when he got into a physical altercation with Noah Gragson and Justin Allgaier, followed by bumping Erik Jones from the lead. Additionally, at Martinsville Speedway he ran into Ty Dillon while pitting.

But he hasn't let any of that get to his head. He has proven that he can remain competitive no matter the equipment he drives in and that he always strives for victory - a trait which could serve him well in the future.

He’s a drummer

Ty Gibbs is only six years old but already has a deep-seated passion for music. He started drumming at age six and has been playing ever since; additionally, he plays guitar and bass as well.

He plays drums in a band called "Joe's House," made up of friends, family and teammates. They perform acoustic rock music but Joe loves playing the drums too!

Ty enjoys spending time outdoors and hiking with his family when not racing. He's an avid NFL fan, particularly the Seattle Seahawks.

His father, Coy Gibbs, was also a NASCAR driver who competed in the Xfinity Series with some success.

After an impressive rookie season in 2021, Ty Gibbs quickly established himself as one of NASCAR's brightest rising stars. In a race at Phoenix Raceway, he won his first NASCAR Xfinity Series championship and is now eyeing competition in the Cup Series.

Gibbs has earned a reputation in the Xfinity Series for consistently winning races. Last year, his seven victories helped propel him to victory and ultimately led him to victory at the series championship.

On Sunday morning, he was scheduled to start the Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway in Virginia. Unfortunately, mechanical issues forced him to withdraw early from the event.

Gibbs and his father, who passed away shortly before the Cup season finale, experienced a bittersweet ending to their weekend.

After news broke of his father's passing, Gibbs Jr. was in mourning and kept quiet for some time. But at Phoenix, where he won the Xfinity Series championship, he returned to public view.

After that, he became a regular guest on Joe Gibbs' podcast. Additionally, he maintains an Instagram account where he posts photos of himself and his family.

Though his father's passing will affect his racing career, it won't stop him from competing in honor of his dad. He plans to continue racing for Joe Gibbs Racing.

The younger Gibbs has much to offer the racing world and will no doubt continue finding his groove at the highest level of the sport. But he will face plenty of obstacles along the way.

He’s a bassist

Ty is an avid music enthusiast and has been known to dabble with various instruments from time to time. He began with guitar but soon switched over to bass guitar, playing in bands for as long as he can remember. Additionally, Ty has a history with the trumpet.

His most recent gig is as bassist for Three 6 Mafia, whose members are all well-known rappers in their own right. Thus, Gibbs can leverage his musical background and use it to his advantage when competing in car racing events.

He's had the chance to showcase his abilities at both stock and open wheel divisions of NASCAR, with a full season in the Cup series coming next month. This season has already seen him win several notable races such as the ARCA trifecta and numerous smaller NASCAR K&N Pro Series or ARCA menards victories. Now with one of NASCAR's most renowned families behind him, he eagerly anticipates what the future holds for him.

He’s a keyboardist

Ty Gibbs is the grandson of NFL coach and NASCAR Hall-of-Fame team owner Joe Gibbs and son to Coy and Heather Kimberley Gibbs. Born October 4, 2002 in Charlotte, North Carolina under the sign of Libra, Ty is proud to represent his family legacy.

As a kid, he enjoyed playing various instruments such as the keyboard. Additionally, he sang in the choir and participated in motocross races with his brothers, cousins, and other family members.

Ty Gibbs began playing the keyboard while in school in Charlotte, North Carolina. He then began taking lessons from a local musician who encouraged him to keep practicing and hone his skills.

He eventually began learning to play guitar and piano, developing an interest in classical pieces such as Beethoven's Fifth.

At 18 years old, he began to showcase his talent in motor racing. Last year he made his Xfinity Series debut and went on to record four victories from 18 starts.

He is currently competing for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series and has a bright future ahead of him. It could even be possible that this could turn into a career.

The 19-year-old has been criticised for his aggressive driving, but that is exactly what makes him successful on the track. He is an eager learner and constantly striving to perfect his skills.

In 2022, he won the Xfinity Series championship and earned seven victories. Additionally, he is part of Joe Gibbs Racing, headed by his grandfather Joe Gibbs.

Once Ty Gibbs turns 18 in 2020, he will join his grandfather's No. 54 Toyota car for a run in the Cup Series.

He has earned the respect of JGR executives, and will soon join a Cup roster that includes 42-year-old Martin Truex Jr. and 42-year-old Denny Hamlin.

Gibbs' family is grieving the loss of his father, Coy, who passed away in November. Since then, they haven't spoken much about their sorrow.
