The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back, and this time they're animated! Looks like 2023 will be something truly remarkable!
They're wise-cracking, pizza-loving heroes who fight crime from their sewer hideout. However, when they decide to emerge from the shadows and become accepted as normal teenagers, they find themselves up against a crime syndicate and an army of mutants.
Donatello, also known as Don or Donnie, is the tallest and smartest of the four Turtles. He serves as April O'Neil's best friend; younger adoptive brother to Karai; Leonardo and Raphael's younger counterparts; and older brother to Michelangelo.
He is the only member of the Turtle team capable of telepathically communicating with aliens, making him an invaluable asset to their team. He's often considered to be their brains and often invents new devices for them - such as an armored truck that can shrink to miniature size to fight Shredder and his footmen.
Donatello is a kind, loving and loyal character with an aptitude for electronics. He builds all the instruments used by the Turtles and also invents many of their vehicles, equipment and weaponry. Additionally, Donatello holds a pacifist view on violence compared to his brothers who tend towards aggression.
Donatello has a quiet demeanor but is fiercely loyal and protective of April O'Neil and his other close friends. He tends to avoid making new friends, preferring instead to spend time with those closest to him - including family members and close acquaintances.
He also has a fear of water, due to Donatello being bit by a water-based ooze in the comics. Although this initially left him weak, Donatello soon learned how to live with it.
Donatello is the leader of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and an inventor, creating many of their weapons and equipment. He serves as a great spokesperson for his team while having an infectious sense of humor.
Donatello played an integral role in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next Generation's storyline "City at War", when the Turtles returned to New York City to put an end to the Foot Clan's civil war. Utilizing his technology skills and martial arts abilities, he successfully protected them from Shredder while also taking on Foot Elite guards in battle.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem features an impressive voice cast including Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, John Cena, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Natasia Demetriou and Ayo Edebiri among others. Directed by Jeff Rowe with production provided by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, the film comes to theaters May 20th 2017.
Michelangelo, the youngest of the Turtle brothers, has earned himself a reputation as an upbeat and fun-loving individual. He has an avid interest in comics and writing, enjoying reading to express himself creatively. Additionally, his compassion for animals can be seen when he helps rescue stray cats or prevent thieves from taking toys away from orphaned children.
Michelangelo shares the same attitude as his older brother Leonardo, but he prefers being playful and content rather than serious. He claims that he lacks the same raw talent as his elder brothers and wishes he could be more like Leonardo - the 'light of the pack'. In some episodes of the series, Master Splinter warns Michelangelo that lack of focus and interest in training may prevent him from reaching his full potential, cautioning him to "chillax" and not take himself so seriously as his elder brother does.
Michelangelo is portrayed as the youngest and goofiest of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series, often trying to find humor in every situation. He also has an affinity for animals more than humans do; he adopts a cat named Klunk and often protects it from would-be snatchers.
He is an adept fighter, possessing not only martial arts expertise but also animal communication capabilities. Surprisingly, he did not suffer disfigurement in this version of the series due to being spared by the Foot Clan's attacks.
His appearance in Mirage comics was much more mature than his cartoon persona, and he developed an interest in writing. He even sold his first poem to a poetry digest. Additionally, he was romantically linked to Sara Foster; however, their relationship did not last.
In 2023, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film series will return with Seth Rogen producing alongside Evan Goldberg and James Weaver as co-heads of Point Grey Pictures. Directed by Jeff Rowe - himself an avid fan of TMNT television as a child - this all-star voice cast includes Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo; Micah Abbey as Donatello; Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo; Brady Noon as Raphael; Jackie Chan as Master Splinter; Ayo Edebiri as April O'Neil plus many other actors from various fields.
Raphael is the most impulsive of all four turtles, yet he also possesses great heart. He often starts fights and quarrels frequently with his brothers, yet he has an immense love for them and will fight to protect them at any cost.
Raphael tends to be very emotional and is especially close with his sister April O'Neil, having saved her from the Foot Clan on several occasions. Unfortunately, Raphael's relationship with Leonardo is the most troubled as he feels abandoned by him and treated like a "little soldier" when he returned home for a year.
Raphael is depicted as having a very temper, yet also fierce loyalty to his brothers and Splinter. He feels very alone and regrets not being able to save Splinter from Shredder.
After Raphael and the turtles return to New York, he encounters a dying Splinter who tells him that only he can save his brothers from Shredder. With help from Vern Fenwick, Raphael uses a mutagen to revive Splinter before joining forces with him against Shredder to successfully rescue their brothers.
He and his brothers are often fiercely protective of one another, as evidenced by their rescue of Vern Fenwick from Shredder. When Leonardo becomes gravely injured and may not survive, Leonardo's brothers begin to shed tears for him.
Raphael is a very calm individual when not engaged in battle. He also shows affection towards his pets, especially Mayhem whom he adores deeply.
In the early video games, he was the least skilled of the Turtles; however, this changed after TMNT: Smash Up was released in 2007. As a result, he quickly became one of fans' favorites due to his extended range of weapons.
Raphael's feelings of isolation and anger when Splinter was taken away by Shredder are depicted in the 1990 film adaptation. Additionally, Raphael develops a stronger bond with news reporter April O'Neil after saving her multiple times from Foot Clan attacks.
Recently, the first teaser trailer for Mutant Mayhem was released, giving us a first look at what to expect from its sequel. Seth Rogen is producing after taking over Michael Bay's struggling franchise and it looks like we'll get another fresh look at our beloved Turtles yet again.
The Shredder is the leader of the Foot Clan and a vicious Machiavellian fighter with ambitions to conquer New York City. He has amassed an army of ninjas that he manipulates and recruits as his own, molding them into skilled thieves and assassins through ninjitsu practice.
He wields an immense Super Shredder form and was joined by Tatsu, his second-in-command. As the henchman of Baxter Stockman, he has been involved in various plots to eliminate both Turtles and other ninjas.
In "Rise of the Turtles, Part 2", Shredder travels to New York in order to address a pressing matter. However, his attempts at killing Splinter are foiled when an evil Japanese circus performer named Tiger Claw enters the picture.
After being sent back to Japan in "Follow the Leader", he returns with an even more dangerous plan. He attempts to use a mutagen to transform the Turtles into snakes that would attack Splinter, but this plan fails when they revert back into human form.
Later, Big Mama, a former slave and Shredder's second-in-command, attaches a control device and magic ring to him, granting him control as Shadow Fiend. In the film, Splinter, April O'Neil, and Casey Jones attempt to stop this plan but are ultimately cut off when Foot Recruit claims the ring.
Therefore, Leonardo and Splinter return to New York to engage Shredder once more in battle. After an intense and bloody struggle between them, Leonardo finally decapitates Shredder with his sword.
He is the sole Utrom to ever successfully kill a Turtle for good, though they believe their battle with Shredder to be over. Yet his existence in another dimension - known as "Twilight Realm" in comics and anime - continues unbroken, allowing him to fight against Mirage Turtles, 1987 Turtles, and 2003 Turtles alike.
