See what happened when Alex Murdaugh took the stand

On Thursday when Alex Murdaugh took the stand in his double murder trial, it appeared he was bracing for an onslaught of evidence and questions. Yet he also looked around the room with a strategic intent, behaving more like a lawyer in court than the accused killer.

What Happened?

Witness what transpired when Alex Murdaugh took the stand at his trial for the grisly murders of his wife and son. Prosecutor Creighton Waters relentlessly grilled Murdaugh throughout the day as he sought to explain why he did what he did.

He admitted to taking money from clients and friends and lying about it all to police. Additionally, he made it known to jurors that he was an opioid addict, which caused his erratic behavior.

Waters began by probing Murdaugh about his phone calls to Maggie during the killings. He asked if he could recall them quickly, and Murdaugh answered no. Additionally, all of Murdaugh's call history had been deleted afterward.

Next, Waters inquired of Murdaugh about his initial SLED interview. He revealed that when SLED asked about his relationship with Maggie and Paul, it triggered paranoia which ultimately lead to lying. Although he regretted making such a hasty decision, it had become an easy one at that point in time.

Waters then probed him about his relationship with Jim Griffin. He claimed to have repeatedly instructed Griffin to contact the State and arrange a meeting, yet Griffin never did.

He then asked about any phone calls he made to Boulware during the murders. He claimed he didn't inform him about them because he owed so much money to him and that he stole it through "lies of omission."

Waters then probed Murdaugh about his trip to Columbia to watch a baseball game with Maggie and Buster. He admitted taking pain pills, which was why he'd stayed at the hotel. Additionally, Waters noted that Murdaugh had been stealing from clients and friends.

Waters then reintroduced a blue rain jacket found in his mother's house, as well as a blue tarp believed to be wrapped around gunpowder residue. He also brought back some forensic evidence, such as gunshot residue on Murdaugh's car and clothes.

Murdaugh’s Opening Statement

Prosecutors spent nearly 30 minutes outlining the evidence they believe will prove Alex Murdaugh killed his wife and son in June 2021. Lead prosecutor Creighton Waters explained to jurors that cell phone data will show Murdaugh was at home when the murders took place, and one week after they occurred he paid an early morning visit to his parents' house where investigators discovered a blue raincoat covered in gunshot residue.

The former lawyer, who has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, faces life in prison without parole if found guilty. He hails from South Carolina's lowcountry region where three generations of Murdaughs served as elected solicitors and ran a successful private litigation firm before being dismissed.

At opening statements, Dick Harpootlian, Murdaugh's defense attorney, painted Murdaugh as a loving husband and father who had no reason to kill his family at Moselle - their 1,700 acre hunting property. He maintained investigators had drawn premature conclusions and that Murdaugh may have been too traumatized to consider all evidence in an impartial way.

Harpootlian pointed to one line in an interview with state law enforcement officer Senior Special Agent Jeff Croft which he believed did not reflect Murdaugh saying he had killed his son. In the video, Murdaugh is heard telling Croft he had been out riding around Moselle with his son hours before their deaths.

On his return home, Murdaugh called the police in hysterics and reported finding his wife and son dead from multiple gunshot wounds near dog kennels on the property. He claimed he was trying to shoot his son in the head, according to court records.

Prosecutors at the crime scene reported that rifle cartridges found near Paul's body have marks that match a gun similar to one missing from Murdaugh's home. Although that gun has yet to be located, prosecutors believe another similar model may also be present at his residence.

Murdaugh has also been accused of stealing millions of dollars from his clients and orchestrating a hit to collect a $10 million life insurance policy for himself. Additionally, he faces numerous other charges such as financial crimes for which he could serve up to 100 years in prison.

Murdaugh’s Defense

Witness what transpired when disbarred South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh took the stand Thursday on day 23 of his double murder trial. Charges against Murdaugh include the execution-style killings of his wife and son back in June 2021.

On the stand, Murdaugh began to reveal details about his past, such as financial crimes he committed during a 13-year legal career. He even acknowledged having lied to investigators about his alibi the night of the murders.

At trial, Murdaugh sought to humanize himself as a loving father and husband. He spoke about taking his family to a University of South Carolina baseball game, his mother suffering from Alzheimer's disease, and trying to keep his ailing father as comfortable as possible.

On cross-examination, prosecutor Creighton Waters began asking questions about various cases Murdaugh had handled years prior. These included thefts from clients and other financial crimes.

After a brief intermission, Murdaugh returned to the witness stand and took Waters' cross-examination lead. In his opening question, Waters asked Murdaugh if he agreed that his theft of money wasn't solely intended for drugs purchases.

Waters then inquired of Murdaugh about his trip to Columbia the weekend before the murders, asking if he stayed at the hotel due to withdrawal symptoms and concern for his family.

He claimed he was, but it wasn't out of fear for them.

Murdaugh admitted, "I lied to them because of my addiction's paranoia." He went on to state that he told multiple law enforcement officials he was at Moselle's dog kennels the night of the killings, yet actually didn't arrive until afterward.

At trial, Murdaugh revealed to the jury his new story about what occurred that night. He claimed he had been lying to law enforcement for 20 months about being at Moselle that evening due to his addiction to opioid painkillers.

Murdaugh’s Cross-Examination

On Friday, Alex Murdaugh took the stand before prosecutor Creighton Waters and was put to the test. She was being probed over his lies and drug use, among other matters.

Waters first asked Murdaugh about his alibi on the night of the murders. He explained that he went to visit his ailing mother and then drove back home, leaving Moselle around 9 p.m., around when prosecutors believe Paul and Maggie were killed.

Waters then noted that data pulled from Murdaugh's phone showed him taking more steps in five minutes than he did throughout the rest of the day. Additionally, it revealed he made numerous calls during that time.

Waters asserted that Murdaugh didn't delete any of the calls he made during that period, but rather forgot them. Ultimately, Waters accused Murdaugh of fabricating an alibi to avoid jail time.

Waters then probed Murdaugh about his pain pill addiction. He admitted taking them, which he said were making him paranoid. He often kept the pills hidden in his car.

He would later come to realize that he had taken them. Additionally, he acknowledged stealing money from his clients.

Waters maintained that Murdaugh stole from his clients to divert attention away from any financial crimes that were pending at the time of the murders. He asked Murdaugh to recall specific conversations with clients and friends whom he had wronged.

Waters then inquired about Murdaugh's solicitor's badge, which he had worn for years. As he spoke to people, Waters displayed a photo of Murdaugh wearing that badge.

He then interrogated Murdaugh about the boat crash that killed Paul in February 2019 and inquired whether or not he attempted to influence those affected by that disaster.

Waters then probed Murdaugh about other instances in which he had lied. He probed him about misleading Gloria Satterfield's sons Tony and Mark Satterfield regarding the case, as well as about a roadside shooting that occurred in June 2018.

what happened to kirstie alley

Kirstie Alley Dies at 71

Kirstie Alley was a two-time Emmy award winner best known for her role as Rebecca Howe on the hit NBC comedy series Cheers. She has also starred in films such as Star Trek and Look Who's Talking movies.

She was a Scientologist for most of her life and fiercely defended the church against criticism. She credited its Narconon program with aiding her overcome cocaine addiction.

Star Trek

Kirstie Alley's role as Saavik in Star Trek was an historic first for a female Vulcan character; she became one of few female Vulcans to get significant screen time in a Star Trek film, providing fans with an unforgettable moment in history.

She became a beloved figure in Star Trek fandom for her roles on Cheers, Veronica's Closet, Look Who's Talking Now and Scream Queens.

Though Alley hadn't had much acting experience prior to her role on Star Trek II, she made up for it with dedication once production started. Her dedication allowed her to make the role her own and bring her own ideas to the table; one scene in particular that stood out amongst fellow Trekkies was one where she wore her hair down while wearing Starfleet uniform - earning her a reputation amongst Trekkies as someone who isn't afraid to stand out from their peers.

Meyer made an interesting choice by casting Alley in the role, and Alley delivered an impressive performance. However, there were a few issues to contend with.

At the time, Alley had been in a relationship with actor Parker Stevenson, whom she would later divorce. Additionally, she had several legal matters and was well-known for her weight issues.

Thankfully, she had the support of her family and friends which enabled her to overcome many hardships. She continued acting in Hollywood even after her marriage ended, becoming a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump in later years.

Cheers

Cheers is a beloved sitcom that ran from 1982 to 1993, and featured a cast of friendly neighborhood characters. Its ensemble cast helped the show stay afloat for 275 episodes, making it one of the most successful series in television history.

The main protagonist of the show was Sam Malone (Ted Danson), a former Boston Red Sox relief pitcher who owned Cheers and was an alcoholic. In the first five seasons of the show, Malone had an on-and-off relationship with Diane Chambers (Shelley Long), a feisty cocktail waitress who was snobby and book smart. She also dated psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), but their romance didn’t last.

In the early seasons, the show focused on mainly inside shots of the bar. However, after the show started to become a ratings success, the characters began to venture outside the confines of Cheers Beacon Hill Bar, first to other sets and eventually to an occasional exterior location.

Aside from the main ensemble cast, the show also starred several guest stars and recurring characters. Among these was Coach, a World War Two veteran who became a regular bar patron.

Nicholas Colasanto played the role of Coach in the first three seasons of Cheers. He was a character actor who appeared in many films, including Starsky and Hutch, CHiPs, Columbo and the original Hawaii Five-O.

In addition to playing a lovable bartender, Colasanto also acted as a consultant for the show. He directed some of the episodes, and is also well-known for his singing voice, which has starred in movies like Cars and A Bug’s Life. His character’s chemistry with other Cheers characters helped to make the show a hit.

Veronica’s Closet

Veronica's Closet was a sitcom that started off strong but eventually faltered. It wasn't perfect, but it had some nice moments and some amazing performances from its cast. Unfortunately, like Cheers, the show lost its shine when it began focusing too much on one character.

The main character, Veronica "Ronnie" Chase (Kirstie Alley), was a successful lingerie retailer who ran her own mail-order business featuring catalogues for women. Unfortunately, her marriage to Bryce (Christopher McDonald) ended in discord when he took advantage of her with Pepper (Ever Carradine).

Season 1 begins with Ronnie asking Tim (her former boyfriend) to photograph an Italian magazine for Veronica's Closet. Unfortunately, the shoot goes awry, leaving Veronica looking bad. To remedy the situation, Veronica recruits Perry (Dan Cortese), her ex-fitness instructor, to craft a PR strategy.

As the season progresses, Veronica starts to develop feelings for Alec Bilson (Ron Silver), her stepfather. But Alec is adamant about not mixing work and pleasure and does not wish to become involved with Veronica.

He eventually promises her a tropical vacation, but she hesitates. Uncertain of how to express her emotions, she struggles with this decision.

Thankfully, her coworkers are there for her. Olive (Kathy Najimy), a plump top executive who offers moral support as well as professional assistance, is there. Josh (Wallace Langham), on the other hand, is an sexually confused assistant who attempts to keep his orientation a secret.

As Veronica becomes more comfortable with being divorced, she begins dating again. Her first love interest is a man - but it turns out he is the son of Millicent Barnes, her boss.

Look Who’s Talking Now

Kirstie Alley, star of John Travolta's 1989 romantic comedy Look Who's Talking Now, has passed away at 71 years old. Her daughters announced her passing Monday.

True Parker, who won an Emmy for her role on Cheers and appeared in numerous films including the original trilogy, passed away from cancer, her daughter True Parker reported on Twitter. Surrounded by family, True Parker "fought with great strength" according to her daughters' words.

Look Who's Talking Now is an entertaining movie that defies its PG-13 rating. It features lots of humorous characters such as Mollie (Kirstie Alley), her husband James Ubriacco (John Travolta) and their two dogs Rocks (Danny DeVito) and Daphne (Diane Keaton), all with a shared passion for Christmas - determined to make their family's holiday season extra special.

If you want to watch the film, it is not available on any streaming services. To rent or buy it, try Amazon Instant Video, iTunes, Google Play and Vudu.

Look Who's Talking Now is rated PG-13 due to some mild language and some adolescent material. It contains some graphic sex jokes that may not be suitable for younger audiences.

This movie also includes many close-ups and cuts of animals snarling, leaping into the air, and causing harm to people or their property. Three wolves confront Dad and Rocks; Dad fights them off with a beeper. Overall, this Christmas movie proves to be entertaining enough despite not being as hilarious or clever as its siblings; nonetheless it still provides some entertaining moments.

Scream Queens

If you've ever watched a horror movie, chances are that these actresses have become iconic icons of the genre. They helped revive slasher films as an intense, action-packed genre that can be gory and creative.

Scream queens can also bring the genre to life by injecting it with humor. This is particularly true of those considered one of the biggest and most influential groups within horror cinema.

Neve Campbell made history when she starred as Sidney Prescott in Wes Craven's 1996 slasher flick Scream, and has since been the face of this genre. She's one of few scream queens to top-line multiple Scream movies and enjoys an adoring fan base that holds her in high regard.

Jamie Lee Curtis, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Janet Leigh have become renowned for their horror roles. Their cult followings are so large that they have even entered pop culture by becoming the faces of iconic brands like Halloween and Psycho.

These scream queens have had a major influence on the horror genre and encouraged other actresses to pursue a career in it. Their popularity stems from their ability to scare audiences without appearing tawdry or campy, which makes them beloved among horror enthusiasts around the globe.

Even though Scream Queens was cancelled in 2016, its fandom continues to grow and many hope that it will return for another season soon, so horror enthusiasts can get their fix of scream queen horror once again. Hopefully this happens soon so everyone can enjoy another season of Scream Queen horror!
