Roc-A-Fella's Dame Dash Clears His Name in the Surviving R Kelly Controversy Unleashed

Roc-A-Fella's Dame Dash Clears His Name in the Surviving R Kelly Controversy Unleashed

Dame Dash has taken steps to defend himself in light of Memphis Bleek's statements in Surviving R. Kelly documentary. According to him, Hov's decision to collaborate with R. Kelly on albums Best of Both Worlds (2002) and Unfinished Business (2004) always rankled with him. Project Fletcher began shortly before disgraced singer's notorious tape of him engaging with an underage girl became viral and child pornography charges were filed against him. Dame Dash on Jay-Z and R. Kelly Dame Dash has taken issue with his former friend and business partner Jay-Z. The co-founder of Roc-A-Fella recently appeared on That's Fucked Up podcast to air his frustration with Hov for working with R. Kelly - an artist recently sentenced to 20 years for child pornography and incitement charges. At his podcast appearance, Dash discussed his 2002 joint album with Kelly and their 2004 tour with Unfinished Business. Both projects were released during a time when an underage girl tape was coming out, and yet Jay-Z continued working with Kelly regardless of all allegations against her. Dash claims Jay-Z knew of these allegations against Kelly yet still decided to collaborate on projects together anyways. Hov was constantly pushing Aaliyah's family members to open up about her marriage with Kelly despite their closeness as close friends and business partners, in an effort to protect her legacy. Dash has suggested that Jay-Z's decision to work with Kelly as part of Roc-A-Fella label led to their friendship and its subsequent breakdown. "Jay was constantly looking for his next big thing; working with people like this can only end badly," according to Dash. At this point, Dame expressed that he believed R. Kelly deserved jail time for his assault of Aaliyah and also expressed regret over their collaboration. If they knew then what they know now they wouldn't have collaborated together "If only I knew then what I know now", said Dame. He went on to credit John Legend with taking a positive stance by participating in Surviving R. Kelly series and also gave due credit to other rappers who've kept quiet during this controversy. Dame discussed his relationship with Aaliyah during an interview, noting how good of a person she was and that she did not deserve being treated the way she had. Additionally, he acknowledged her place as one of the most iconic female artists of our time. Dame Dash on Aaliyah Dame Dash has made no secret of his dislike for R. Kelly. During a recent appearance on Nick Cannon's video series Cannon's Class, where his opinions on Kelly came up, Cannon and Dash went into detail about how it has affected their business as a cofounder of Roc-A-Fella Records and eventually lead into discussion about Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly. Dame brought up Aaliyah and Kelly's controversial relationship during this episode. He revealed that Aaliyah lied to him about their history together; furthermore Dame felt she hadn't fully recovered from it before she died tragically in a plane crash. "One In A Million" singer Lisa "One Shot" Lee would have celebrated her 39th birthday today (August 25), had it not been for an accident that claimed her life in 2001. However, even through tragedy and mourning she left an impressionful legacy behind; both her debut album and role in Romeo Must Die are regarded cult classics to this day. While Aaliyah was known for her musical and fashion trendsetter status, Dame believes her career trajectory would have taken a different course had she still been alive. Before her death, Aaliyah collaborated on multiple projects with R. Kelly including their 2002 joint album Best of Both Worlds. Hov is said to have known about their controversial relationship but did nothing to stop it. Although Dame was insistent that he didn't silence Aaliyah, he conceded to turning a blind eye to Hov's work with Kelly so as to keep business moving along smoothly and noted that the founder of Roc Nation wasn't particularly supportive of his decision to collaborate on R. Kelly project with Hov. Dame also addressed his unofficial fiancee Aaliyah. According to Dame, Aaliyah has always been reluctant to open up about her relationship with R. Kelly since secretly marrying him at just 15 years old in 1994 (since annulled). These remarks come shortly after Demetrius Smith, R. Kelly's former tour manager pleaded guilty in court for paying off government officials in order to get Aaliyah an ID so she could marry R. Kelly of Chicago. Dame Dash on The Best of Both Worlds After years of fighting, Jay-Z and Dame Dash came to terms and formed a new partnership. Dash helped Hov launch his Roc Nation imprint as well as sign successful hip hop acts to it like M.O.P and State Property. However, not everything ran smoothly between them: later on Dame released his autobiography entitled A Real Man Can Apologize which became a meme used to apologize to former business partners. Hip-Hop Motivation recently interviewed Dame who revealed his frustration over Jay-Z's decision to collaborate with R. Kelly on their 2002 album Best of Both Worlds. Dame strongly opposed this collaboration given Aaliyah had such a poor relationship with Kelly. Dash and Kelly collaborated on their joint album just months after Aaliyah died in a plane crash, in spite of having had an unstable relationship. Aaliyah couldn't bring herself to discuss allegations against Kelly for abuse that she suffered; Dash understood why Aaliyah couldn't discuss these claims but couldn't support her choice to work together with Kelly. In his conversation with Cannon, Dame voiced his opinions regarding the recent Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly. The docu-series investigates allegations against R. Kelly for years of domestic abuse against various women including Aaliyah who passed away. Dame didn't like that Jay-Z continued working with Kelly without speaking up; but admitted he wasn't exactly fond of R. Kelly either. "Cannon's Class" host Nick Cannon and Dame discussed various other topics as well, such as Jay-Z's recent headline-making purchase of a $100 million penthouse. While Roc-A-Fella co-founder Dame acknowledges Hov's achievements, he disagrees with his pricey purchase. Furthermore, since Jay has become so wealthy now he no longer thinks Jay should "rob Peter to pay Paul". To watch the entire interview go to YouTube. Dame Dash on Surviving R. Kelly Lifetime's Surviving R. Kelly series returned on Jan 2, with the second chapter airing live and continuing to focus on disgraced singer R. Kelly and his relationship with Aaliyah shortly after she entered into an illegal union with him. TMZ managed to obtain an exclusive clip where former flame Dame Dash, who dated Aaliyah shortly before Kelly abducted her, shared his insights about their connection. Roc-A-Fella Records cofounder Dame reveals that Aaliyah had no intention of harming Kelly; rather she wanted all ties severed between them. According to this clip from Roc-A-Fella Records' cofounder Dame, when Aaliyah and him started dating again she asked him to "leave [Kelly] alone", not wanting anything further to do with the former mentor any longer. As they released The Best of Both Worlds album and tour in 2002, allegations of Kelly's sexual misconduct with underage girls began surfacing, as well as charges of child pornography against him as an artist. Although The Best of Both Worlds went platinum and peaked at No. 2, its success ultimately drove a wedge between them both; recently in an interview with Hip-Hop Motivation, Dame revealed that their romantic relationship caused its breakdown. Dame hasn't heard from Jay-Z since the docuseries premiered, though he says the rapper remains "still in touch" with Aaliyah's family. Unfortunately for Dame, Jay-Z continues to collaborate with R. Kelly despite allegations of sexual abuse committed against young girls by him in his music videos and albums. Dame made clear during his appearance on That's F***ed Up podcast that his relationship with Aaliyah didn't prevent him from criticizing Jay-Z for continuing to collaborate with R. Kelly after their illegitimate marriage was annulled, noting that Aaliyah wanted nothing to do with R. Kelly after it had been annulled. Additionally, the founder of Roc-A-Fella believes R. Kelly deserves his current prison sentence of over 20 years if all charges against him are successful in being prosecuted successfully against him.
