Though she had never considered becoming a mom before meeting her wife, Jesseca persuaded her to do so when they started dating. With three children from previous relationships, Jesseca convinced her that experiencing motherhood at least once was something important in life.
Yet their journey to motherhood was not without its difficulties. Before they could place their embryos into Harris-Dupart's womb, she needed to remove fibroids and polyps from her uterus; additionally, the couple experienced miscarriage.
Thankfully, the couple had an anonymous donor for their embryos and a Black-owned boutique fertility center to assist them along the way. Despite all of their health issues, they managed to have a successful pregnancy despite all obstacles.

Da Brat, having never before parented before, admitted there was plenty of information she needed to learn about being a mother, but ultimately made the decision together with her spouse.

As if the congratulations gifts weren't enough, Derek Blanks also took their growing bump for a photoshoot with an urban aesthetic. The rapper donned a pinstriped suit with open shirt, overcoat and black hat while Harris-Dupart donned a shimmering black gown.
In the end, it was a photo of their hands holding each other up from behind that made all the difference. It marked the first time they ever shared their pregnancy news with the public, so it was an incredibly special moment for both of them.
