Peter Pan Wendy Official Trailer Disney

In this live-action film, Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi will portray Tinker Bell - making her the first Black woman to portray this beloved character onscreen.

Peter Pan & Wendy will be available to stream on Disney+ starting April 28. Directed by David Lowery, it is one of many original titles streaming on the service.

Cast

Disney+'s live-action remake of Peter Pan, directed by David Lowery (who previously directed 2021 medieval fantasy The Green Knight) and co-written with Toby Halbrooks (who co-wrote Pete's Dragon), looks set for an intense, realistic take on an iconic story fans have come to know and love.

Disney+ will release "Peter Pan," starring Alexander Molony as Peter Pan and Ever Anderson as Wendy Darling on April 28. Additionally, Jude Law stars as Captain Hook, Yara Shahidi stars as Tinker Bell, while Jim Gaffigan portrays Mr. Smee - the pirate's beloved boatswain.

Molony and Anderson both possess an impressive acting resume, having previously appeared in films like The Reluctant Landlord and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. They're joined by a host of talented newcomers including Alyssa Wapanatahk as Tiger Lily - the daughter of Neverland's Indigenous tribe.

Peter Pan has a complicated past, with past adaptations often portraying Native people in derogatory terms. But Disney is taking a different approach with this adaptation; according to their research and input from Alyssa Wapanatahk, they strive for an accurate representation of her tribe.

Yara Shahidi will make history as the first Black woman to portray Tinker Bell onscreen, an important milestone for Disney as they strive to diversify their film roster in recent years and seek more diversity amongst their upcoming projects.

The film will also boast a diverse cast, including the first Black Tinkerbell, African-American actor to star as villain in the Disney franchise and South Asian actress to portray Peter Pan. Additionally, there are numerous child actors involved - it's encouraging that Disney is taking time to ensure all young cast members have an inclusive experience.

Release Date

Peter Pan is one of Disney's more well-worn stories, but director David Lowery's latest live-action reimagining might just have the ability to break that cycle. The film will be released exclusively on Disney+ later this spring, and the company recently gave fans a first look at it.

Directed by David Lowery (The Green Knight, Pete's Dragon), the new film takes a grittier approach to the beloved tale, and features a more realistic take on Neverland than some of the recent reimaginings have done. Using a script written by Lowery and Toby Halbrooks, the film stars Alexander Molony as Peter Pan and Ever Anderson as Wendy Darling. Yara Shahidi also stars as Tinker Bell, and Jude Law stars as Captain Hook.

The trailer teases a journey of faith and adventure, centered on Peter Pan (Molony), who is able to bring Wendy and her brothers back to the world of Neverland. Along with Tinker Bell, they encounter an evil pirate captain and embark on a thrilling journey that will change their lives forever.

As it turns out, it's been a long time coming for Lowery to make Peter Pan & Wendy, and his passion project is now finally getting the filming treatment. According to a recent press release, the film is now in its "early stages" of production.

In a previous interview, Lowery discussed his process for the project and how it was shaped by his personal experiences with Neverland. He noted that it was a place where he felt very at home.

But it wasn't until the movie was finished that he realized that he wanted to explore its darker side, a process he believes has helped him better understand Neverland and its residents. The result is a more nuanced version of the classic story that removes some of the problematic elements found in both the original J. M. Barrie novel and the animated film, notably the racist depiction of the Neverland's Native American tribe.

Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Yara Shahidi, Jude Law, Joshua Pickering, Alyssa Wapanatahk, Jacobi Jupe, and Molly Parker, Peter Pan & Wendy is set to launch on April 28, 2023. It will be the first live-action reimagining to hit Disney's streaming service, and it joins a growing roster of reimagined classics.

Trailer

Disney has finally released the official trailer for Peter Pan & Wendy, their live-action reimagining of the classic fairy tale set to debut on Disney+ this April. Starring Jude Law as Captain Hook and Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, David Lowery directed this fantasy epic which also includes medieval fantasy epic The Green Knight and fantasy adventure Pete's Dragon.

The new trailer, slightly over one minute long, introduces Ever Anderson's Wendy Darling as she arrives at Neverland and meets Peter Pan (Alexander Molony) and the Lost Boys. She then meets Yara Shahidi's Tinker Bell, John Darling (Joshua Pickering) and Michael Darling (Jacobi Jupe), all members of the Darling family.

From here, the trailer follows Peter, Wendy and some of the Lost Boys as they explore Neverland. We see mermaids, pirate ships and flying boats that make up this fantastical world. Additionally, Jim Gaffigan stars as Smee - Captain Hook's loyal first mate - and Alyssa Wapanatahk portraying Tiger Lily - a warrior princess from Neverland's indigenous tribe.

Peter Pan & Wendy looks like it will be an inclusive film, even if its trailer is rather brief. Fans have come to love J.M. Barrie's classic tale through various animated and live-action versions over the years, so this latest adaptation promises more of everything than past renditions have offered up.

Peter Pan invites Wendy and her brothers to Neverland, where they come across a misfit group of Lost Boys who have forgotten about the outside world. Soon enough, they meet an evil pirate captain named Captain Hook (Jude Law), leading them on an exciting adventure that will change their lives forever.

Peter Pan, based on J. M. Barrie's 1904 play, follows the tale of a young boy who refuses to grow up and instead journeys to Neverland where he lives with an island community of mermaids and pirates. This epic tale is filled with magic, adventure, and hope.

Peter Pan & Wendy is an upcoming live-action reimagining of the classic Disney story, directed by David Lowery. Set for release on Disney+ in 2023, the film will star as a live action featurette.

At D23 Expo, the cast of Peter Pan & Wendy made a big announcement by hyping up their film and unveiling an official trailer. Starring Ever Anderson as Wendy Darling, Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, and Yara Shahidi (Tinker Bell), who is making history by being the first Black woman to portray this tiny fairy in cinema history - this trailer also included special guest appearances by fellow Black woman actress, Tamika Waititi.

The opening scene of Neverland offers us a stunning glimpse! A pirate ship sails through the sky as a golden glow illuminates the silhouettes of characters.

The film follows the classic plotlines, but also delves deeper into Wendy's tale as she joins Peter on his journey to Neverland. This refreshing take on an iconic tale is sure to delight viewers of all ages.

4. It's a Very Good Movie

The Disney live-action Peter Pan & Wendy offers some impressive performances and action scenes, while staying true to Barrie's spirit without becoming too musty. Unfortunately, it's only a short movie, so kids may get bored quickly.

4. It's More Inclusive Than Past Retellings

In the trailer for Peter Pan & Wanda, some children refer to the Darlings as "Lost Boys" and inform Wendy they aren't all boys. While this may seem like a minor detail, it serves as evidence that this live-action version of Peter Pan & Wanda is much more inclusive than previous renditions.

4. It Teaches Children Respectfulness & Kindness

The film conveys several positive messages for children to consider, such as respecting one another and treating others with kindness and patience. Furthermore, the cast emphasizes how important it is to cherish childhood memories while being responsible adults.

Peter Pan & Wendy is directed by David Lowery, who previously directed the Pete's Dragon remake. He co-wrote the script with Toby Halbrooks as well. It will be released on April 28th on Disney+.
