Patrick Mahomes' Twitter Verification and the Power of Elon Musk

Patrick Mahomes' Twitter Verification and the Power of Elon Musk

Once Patrick Mahomes' verification badge disappeared on Thursday, 2x Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes jokingly asked Twitter CEO Elon Musk to restore it - and eventually he did just that!

As Twitter transitioned to its subscription-based verification system last month, a number of public agencies, media organizations and businesses - such as official weather accounts and news media outlets like The New York Times - lost their blue checks. This included official weather accounts as well as transit systems.

Why Mahomes Won’t Pay for Twitter Blue

Patrick Mahomes is one of the most accomplished athletes in American sports history and an active social activist. He has taken action against police brutality and violence against black people as well as voter registration projects alongside teammate Tyrann Mathieu.

Mahomes won the NFL MVP award and led his Kansas City Chiefs team to victory in Super Bowl 50 for the first time ever in 2018. Additionally, he earned two Pro Bowl selections while also making significant donations towards charitable causes through various efforts.

Patrick Mahomes enjoys an enormous following on Twitter with more than 2.4 million people following him regularly for updates both on and off the field. But it seems he doesn't care much about retaining his blue checkmark to prove he's authentic.

As such, Mahomes has become the subject of an initiative from certain individuals who hope to convince him to pay $8 a month for Twitter Blue. The service grants access to features such as exclusive content and maintaining your verified blue checkmark status.

While it is understandable why Mahomes would be persuaded to pay for the service, he appears reluctant. Already one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL and with a family to care for.

Brittany Matthews has also taken to social media in support of Patrick Mahomes and has frequently posted humorous responses regarding the controversy resulting from his decision not to purchase Twitter Blue. Additionally, she has spoken out against those who criticize Mahomes for opting not to pay an additional premium fee for Twitter.

However, former Texas Tech star Patrick Mahomes won't be joining Twitter anytime soon - Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes doesn't wish to give any of his hard-earned money away to a company who don't understand or share in his commitment to equality and diversity.

No matter Mahomes' unwillingness to pay for Twitter Blue, his team and he will likely continue their success in the NFL and earn millions each year while possibly being victorious at winning another Super Bowl championship.

Mahomes’ Mic Drop Response

Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is having an incredible run right now. His team is poised to win their second Super Bowl championship and he may just become NFL MVP again for 2018. One of the most celebrated players ever seen on an NFL field, Mahomes boasts a huge fan base who continue to support him with accolades and votes of support.

Mahomes also has much on his mind as he prepares to lead Kansas City into battle at Glendale, Arizona, which will be watched by hundreds of millions. As such, he's taking note of things which may not seem so significant - like taking note of things such as temperature.

He's thinking back on the six interceptions he threw during his senior year at Whitehouse High in Texas and making note of which former head coaches from which schools they went.

Coaches still alive today played an integral part of football history. They saw how one player eventually rose through the ranks to become their star, as well as when his chances fell short - all familiar faces when watching him as a child on Sunday during Super Bowl 50!

He will remember how some players picked him off and told their coaches, "I don't want to play football again," and will remember how wrong they were - that they had the chance to get in his face and possibly alter his path of life.

Mahomes didn't just turn his back on fans when asked by his own about paying for Twitter Blue. When one fan asked him for $8 dollars to cover their verification service on Twitter Blue, Mahomes replied with the catchy line, "Can't bro I've got kids," prompting even more followers on social media.

Mahomes is just one of many NFL players outraged by Twitter's decision to remove its blue checkmark, including Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill who took to social media to express his outrage at this move.

Mahomes’ Response to Elon Musk

As many may already know, several high-profile athletes are speaking out against Twitter's new subscription service, Twitter Blue. At $8 a month plus tax, it aims to identify imposters on the network while helping people verify their identities on Twitter; however, many users are opting out and showing their displeasure with its decision.

One such player is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, with over 2.4 million followers on Twitter. Mahomes took a stand against Twitter's new plan by refusing to subscribe to Twitter Blue and refusing to pay the associated fee either.

The new plan has proven controversial and many verified Twitter users lost their blue verification check mark unless they paid $8 per month for Twitter Blue, an optional service with two-factor authentication and other benefits that helps protect their accounts from cyber criminals.

On Thursday, several verified users noticed their blue verification badge was being stripped from their accounts, including NBA superstar LeBron James and two-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes took to Twitter's CEO Elon Musk via tweet to request it back for his account.

Mahomes' response exemplifies exactly the kind of reaction one would expect from a high-profile sports star. Mahomes, as two-time Super Bowl winner and face of NFL, has become an influential member of its political agenda.

Following Mahomes's lead, other football stars are speaking out against Twitter's new plan. Miami Dolphins quarterback Tyreek Hill and Eagles tight end Darius Slay both stated their decision not to pay for Twitter Blue.

Marques Valdez-Scantling, one of Mahomes' teammates in the NFL, has voiced displeasure at Twitter's plan to eliminate legacy verification badges. Mahomes inquired as to when Twitter intended on taking away his blue checkmark; Twitter responded that this should take place around April.

Mahomes' response to Twitter CEO Elon Musk was hilarious and amusing. Mahomes posted a sarcastic tweet that read: "Can't Bro I Got Kids." His statement was met by Valdez-Scantling asking when the verification badge would disappear.

Mahomes’ Response to Tyreek Hill

Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is having an exceptional season. Leading both rushing and passing yards for an NFL franchise and has already received the league MVP award, he also leads in completion percentage, touchdown passes and passer rating - key attributes in leading their AFC West rivalry team to victory.

Mahomes' impressive play has ensured his team remains undefeated this season, including two impressive shutout victories over Miami Dolphins and a convincing triumph against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mahomes credits head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for helping evolve his offense this year.

Mahomes understands why Chiefs fans were up in arms over Hill's trade to the Dolphins last March, yet still manages to express his displeasure about it. While Mahomes believes they have moved past it and signed receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling this offseason - Hill will still be missed through out this season.

Since 2012, Patrick Mahomes has been an integral part of the Chiefs offense, making his absence especially felt this season and in years to come. Mahomes relied on him heavily during their recent success this season and without him will feel its consequences as his game plan may be altered significantly.

Mahomes remains optimistic despite his loss and is sure he'll continue to advance as a quarterback. While still honing his craft at finding open receivers and running the ball effectively, Mahomes is already showing signs of becoming the league's next great QB.

Mahomes doesn't believe he will pay for Twitter Blue, but is unwilling to allow the platform to take away his verification status just yet. On Saturday, Mahomes was among several athletes whose checkmark was reinstated after Elon Musk paid for LeBron James' legacy verification status and returned their checkmark.

Even though Mahomes currently boasts over 2.4 million Twitter followers, it is still possible for him to lose his verification checkmark. Mahomes may have amassed such an enormous following because of his talent but with family commitments and other obligations.
