News about Razr Motorola

After two years away, Moto is back with a refreshed design and competitive price point. Rumors indicate it may also feature some impressive hardware components such as the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and Dolby Atmos sound support.

This is an impressive foldable smartphone that puts Samsung's Galaxy Flip 4 to shame. It boasts a large 6.7-inch screen, superior cameras and much more besides.

Specs

There are a number of key improvements with this device, such as Motorola's upgraded hinge design that should make opening and closing with one hand easier. Furthermore, its teardrop folded display eliminates gaps that plagued the first foldable Razr.

Gaps could have been an issue, particularly when it came to making sure the device was completely flush and no creases appeared under your finger when folding it. Motorola claims their new hinge can withstand 200,000 flips, meaning we should be able to use it for five years before any signs of wear and tear appear.

The primary camera is a 50MP sensor, offering improved low-light performance (and OIS) due to its sizeable 2.0mm pixels. It's backed up by a 13MP ultrawide lens with 120 degrees field of view and dedicated macro shooting mode.

Though not the highest-end camera available at this price point, it is an upgrade over the previous generation and features a punch-hole 32MP selfie snapper as well.

It's a decent camera, though not quite up to par with the Google Pixel 4A or iPhone 11. Low light performance is not quite as impressive, and you should exercise caution when zooming in for photos.

We would have loved to see better battery life for the Razr, especially given its high-resolution camera. But overall performance of the phone is impressive - boasting a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, 8GB or 12GB RAM and up to 256GB storage in its base model.

With the Razr, you should have an optimal experience while having plenty of power for multitasking. That's made possible by its smaller size compared to some rivals: it features a 2.7-inch 573 x 800 OLED display.

The phone's chin has been tapered and the fingerprint reader relocated to the rear, making it easier to hold. Furthermore, its four 5G antennas should help optimize performance on AT&T and T-Mobile's 5G networks.

Design

The Razr Motorola is one of the most iconic smartphones ever. This clamshell-style phone sold over 50 million units worldwide and was groundbreaking due to its metal design, touch screen technology and physical fingerprint sensor.

It also features a large external display that folds in half, giving it an unusual form factor and making it easy to transport.

At its launch, Motorola's Razr was a groundbreaking smartphone that set itself apart from other phones with its distinctive clamshell-like design and modern aesthetic. It quickly gained recognition among tech experts as one of the most innovative devices ever created.

After some time, however, demand for the clamshell-style design diminished and smartphones became more prevalent. Motorola attempted to revive their Razr line in 2011, but it failed to sell well.

In 2020, Motorola is bringing back their iconic Razr smartphone as a foldable phone with an OLED display that folds in half and plenty of exciting features like 5G connectivity and high-resolution cameras.

The internals are impressive, boasting a Snapdragon 765 processor and 6GB of RAM for smooth performance. It also has an expansive 256GB internal storage capacity as well as a microSD card slot for additional memory expansion.

It offers impressive battery life and boasts a large, high-resolution display with 90Hz refresh rate and HDR support. Plus, its camera has an ultra wide angle lens capable of capturing 3D images.

When it comes to software, the Razr offers a stock Android experience that's user-friendly and includes features like Peek Display, gestures, and Power Touch.

The hardware is impressive, too, boasting a massive 4,000mAh battery and rapid charging technology that charges the device in under 30 minutes. Its display has an impressive pixel density of 432 pixels per inch and looks vibrant even under direct sunlight.

Price

The Razr Motorola is an impressive smartphone, boasting both classic and modern features. Its iconic clamshell design comes in multiple colors and can be paired with various cases to protect it from scratches.

The latest Razr model boasts a 6.2-inch foldable display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor and 8GB of RAM. Additionally, it has one single lens camera as well as 256GB of storage.

Last year's model was somewhat outdated and had some issues, so this newer one adds some nice features that give the phone a more premium look and feel, such as a slightly tapered chin (instead of a chunky one) and an upgraded fingerprint sensor.

But if you're searching for a phone that will maximize your internet experience, the new Razr may not be your best bet. It isn't as powerful as other foldable phones, doesn't offer as many features as other smartphones and - most importantly - still has some way to go before it can compete with traditional phones in performance terms.

Another improvement to the hinge is its design: it now folds the screen's mid-point into a teardrop shape, eliminating some of the creases present on last year's model. This should make opening and closing the device much simpler.

Finally, the phone's fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back. This change is beneficial as it doesn't need to be opened in order to access its scanner.

Despite its price, the Razr Motorola is an attractive option for those seeking the latest technology. It's a nostalgic throwback to when flip phones were popular and is definitely worth considering if you're searching for a folding device.

Release date

After two years, Motorola is back in the foldable phone game with an updated version of their classic Razr flip phone. While this device is more refined than previous generations, it still carries on Motorola's long lineage of iconic clamshell phones.

The Razr 2022 is available in China and Europe for PS949 (approximately US$1,160) for a 128GB model. While it's directly competing with Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4, is it worth spending extra cash?

The Razr 2022 marks a step up in design from its predecessors, yet there are still a few key issues that need improvement. Most notably, there's no fingerprint sensor on the front like previous devices; instead, it has one located on the back beneath a Motorola logo.

Software-wise, this device runs Android 12 out of the box with a wealth of apps preinstalled. However, Motorola also adds some unique features which are controlled through their app - like Peek Display and gestures for certain functions - that can only be accessed with the Moto app.

As with other Moto phones, this phone offers a straightforward user experience - stock home screen layouts, notifications shade and app drawer layouts that are easy to navigate. Plus you get Motorola's Ready For feature which enables users to connect their phone to either a PC or external monitor for different experiences.

On the hardware front, the Razr 2022 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor - an upgrade over its previous models' Snapdragon 710 and 765G chipsets. It easily runs all major games we tested without any issues whatsoever.

The camera on this phone is one of its greatest assets, featuring a 48MP main sensor and dedicated selfie shooter. Furthermore, it boasts various creative features like applying video filters through third-party applications.

Overall, the Razr 2022 is an impressive phone - much better than its predecessors and with a more competitive price point. While it doesn't quite measure up to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in some aspects, this folding phone still stands as an impressive upgrade and worthy successor of its predecessors.
