Morgan Wallen's performance on NBC's popular singing competition The Voice gave him a national audience. His appearance led him to find a music partner in Sergio Sanchez of Atom Smash and they began writing songs together. In 2015, Wallen signed to Panacea Records and released his first EP Stand Alone under their label.
The singer quickly gained notoriety on the internet and is now a household name. His devoted fans helped him achieve chart-topping status with his second studio album Dangerous: The Double Album. His singles "More Than My Hometown," "7 Summers" and "Wasted On You" went to number one on the charts and became his most successful hits.
Morgan Wallen has achieved fame through his music, but he's also a passionate father and family man. He co-parents his young son with his former girlfriend and makes time for him in-between recording sessions and tours.
Wallen was born in Sneedville, Tennessee on May 13, 1993 to Tommy and Leslie Wallen. As the son of a pastor, his parents encouraged his musical interests; he began taking piano and violin lessons at an early age. Additionally, Wallen had planned on playing baseball in college but had to withdraw due to an elbow injury.
He began singing in his church as a boy and quickly developed an aptitude for writing lyrics. Soon after signing with a record label, he moved to Nashville.
Wallen was an eclectic musician, taking influences from rock, hip-hop and country genres alike. His mother signed him up for The Voice talent competition which gave him the opportunity to perform for audiences nationwide.
His audition for the show garnered widespread recognition and Wallen was eventually chosen for Usher's team but ultimately stolen by Adam Levine. His final song on the show, "Stay," became his signature track and inspired him down his creative path.
In 2021, Wallen's sophomore album Dangerous: The Double Album made history by debuting at #1 on Billboard 200 albums chart and setting several records. It features songs that topped country music charts such as "More Than My Hometown," "7 Summers" and "Wasted On You."
Many of his fans expressed outrage at the use of racial slurs in a music video, but Wallen has since expressed regret. As an atheist and Roman Catholic, he was invited back to the show and performed alongside Jason Bateman and other cast members in "Alabama," his re-invited clip.
Wallen's funny clip shows off his wry sense of humor, but it doesn't quite capture the full character he embodies. He's an engaging individual who doesn't hesitate to make a fool of himself.
The video is set in an Alabama bar, complete with Crimson Tide hats and gear. Bateman and other cast members also appear at the establishment.
