Michael B Jordan Receives A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame
On Wednesday, Michael Jordan received his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame just days before his directorial debut Creed III hits theaters. Accompanied by frequent collaborator and friend Ryan Coogler as well as fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe star Jonathan Majors, Jordan was introduced to an emotional crowd in a touching ceremony.
Jordan is an industry leader dedicated to bringing social change to Hollywood through art and philanthropy. Recently, he launched the Outlier Society Fellowship as well as a #ChangeHollywood initiative.
The Hollywood Walk Of Fame honors celebrities who are nominated by fans and selected for a star by the Walk of Fame selection panel. Although this process can take some time, once an individual is chosen to have their star placed along Hollywood Boulevard or Vine Street, they can choose where it will be displayed.
Stars are typically placed at six-foot intervals, with the honoree's star placed in front of a business associated with their career in show business or profession. For instance, actor Mike Myers has his star displayed outside an adult boutique featuring his Austin Powers roles, while Roger Moore has one placed outside the Dolby Theatre where the Academy Awards take place annually.
When a star is awarded to someone, the ceremony is often public and covered in reporters for photos and videos. It can be an exciting moment for the celebrity being honored as they usually join friends and family during this momentous occasion.
At a ceremony on Wednesday (March 1), Jordan was honored by long-time collaborator and friend director Ryan Coogler and "Creed III" co-star Jonathan Majors. During the presentation, both shared their memories of working with Jordan throughout the years.
They noted how the esteemed actor has an admirable work ethic, always getting right to the point no matter what is asked of him on screen or in the studio.
Coogler recalls their relationship on set as one of incredible strength. They shared similar values, and were always there for one another.
Coogler and Jordan have shared a true friendship that has grown stronger over time, and Coogler credits Jordan with helping him reach his highest potential. He also noted how their connection is "incredibly strong".
Jordan expressed his emotions visibly, acknowledging the overwhelming feeling of loss. As he prepares to begin filming his directorial debut, Creed III, Jordan has been taking in every moment and "feeling a little bit of a temporary goodbye."
Jordan has been a prominent actor in the entertainment industry for two decades. He's featured in films like Cosby, The Sopranos and Friday Night Lights, while also serving as an industry leader committed to social change within Hollywood. In 2016, he founded Outlier Society with a mission of investing in stories that bring diversity and inclusivity onto screen.
On Wednesday, Jordan was honored with the 2,751st star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. He attended with friends Ryan Coogler and Jonathan Majors, who both gave heartfelt speeches about their friendship with Jordan.
According to a press release, Jordan was recognized for his "impressive body of work" and contributions to the film industry as a whole. Additionally, he received praise as director, having directed Creed III which hits theaters on March 3.
At the ceremony, Coogler recounted his first meeting with Jordan and their shared love of books and families. Since then, they've collaborated on several films together, such as 2013's Fruitvale Station and Marvel Studios' blockbuster Black Panther.
In an inspiring speech, Coogler acknowledged Jordan's accomplishment as a testament to their hard work together. He remembered Jordan working tirelessly during production of Fruitvale Station - their first movie together - which was truly testament to how hard they both worked.
He spoke fondly of their friendship, noting that they had been working together on projects for years and he was "so proud" of both of them. The two are set to collaborate again on upcoming projects such as Rainbow Six - a reboot of The Thomas Crowne Affair - and Methuselah.
After a storied career, Jordan continues to demonstrate his impressive talents as an actor and filmmaker. Most recently, he starred in and directed the third installment of the Creed series, earning him praise from fellow professionals. Furthermore, Jordan will star and produce the upcoming film Rainbow Six, a sequel to 2011 action thriller Without Remorse.
Jordan was joined by his family as he celebrated receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. He looked absolutely radiant as he shared this momentous occasion with close friends and colleagues.
Ryan Coogler praised Michael B. Jordan with a heartfelt speech, noting his "worker's approach," in which Jordan prioritizes what is given and gives it his all.
Director Ryan Coogler's films have featured Jordan in a variety of roles, such as the lead actor in Fruitvale Station (about Oscar Grant who was fatally shot by BART police) and Adonis Creed in both Creed and Black Panther. Both movies received positive reviews and opened up discussions about what it means for more Black actors to have leading roles.
He then started Outlier Society, a production company to produce diverse projects and stories. Their first effort was the HBO series FAHRENHEIT 451, which earned them a Producers Guild Award; they then produced OWN drama DAVID MAKES MAN for OWN Networks.
Coogler also shared a touching personal story about his relationship with Jordan, describing how they were brought together by an affinity for books and their families. Initially, they both began as actors on TV shows but ultimately found success as directors.
Jordan was born in Oakland, California and grew up in the East Bay. While attending Saint Mary's College of California, he played football and earned an academic scholarship. His passion for writing was fostered by English professor Rosemary Graham who encouraged him to pursue a career in film production.
As a student at the college, he played a leading role in their play and began studying cinematic arts with an aim of writing his first feature film about Oscar Grant that would later be released as Fruitvale Station. During this time, he also co-wrote an inspiring biographical drama about Grant which would become his first feature film.
In January, Coogler was detained by police in Atlanta while trying to withdraw $12,000 from his Bank of America account. A police report states that a teller alerted her superior that Coogler appeared to be attempting a bank robbery, so 911 was called.
According to bodycam footage of the incident, Coogler was composed and didn't attempt to manipulate his way out of anything. He had written a note on the back of his withdrawal slip requesting that all funds be counted discreetly.
Last week, Michael B. Jordan officially received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was joined by friends and collaborators at a ceremony to commemorate it. Jonathan Majors from Creed III as well as Black Panther director Ryan Coogler both spoke at the event with kind words about their friend and collaborator MBJ.

In 2016, he launched his own production company and also established the Outlier Society fellowship to give opportunities to those often left out of filmmaking and entertainment industries.
Jordan has earned critical acclaim as an actor by appearing in numerous films such as The Wire, Friday Night Lights and Hardball. His role as Adonis Creed in the Rocky films further elevated his career, earning him respect from both colleagues and fans alike.
Jordan has seen tremendous success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now he's ready to take his talents to another level. On March 3, he will direct his first feature film, Creed III, marking a new chapter in his career in entertainment.
At the ceremony, Jordan reflected on his journey and thanked his family and colleagues for their support. He also talked about his devotion to his son as well as how hard work has paid off in achieving success today.
The 36-year-old actor donned a royal blue suit and looked dapper during the ceremony. He was joined by friends and collaborators who were present to honor him and offer their heartfelt congratulations.
Jordan and Ryan Coogler have had a fruitful partnership for many years, working on numerous projects together such as Black Panther, Fruitvale Station, and the first Creed movie.
