March Madness bracket updates live Michigan State UConn

No matter if you're a college basketball fan or not, the 2022 NCAA Tournament is about to get exciting. The action kicks off with the First Four games in Dayton and continues through the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds.

UConn and Michigan State have already shown that they can overcome overwhelming odds to win big games. On Thursday night, these two teams will square off in a game that could decide their path to the conference tournament.

1. UConn vs. Michigan State

The bracket updates are in, and this March Madness could be one of the most unpredictable tournaments in recent memory. While familiar names like Kansas and Gonzaga remain undefeated, there are plenty of teams who have lost all season long.

On Saturday night, the top 16 teams in America will face off and you can follow each game live with CBS Sports' full lineup of live scores, analysis and highlights throughout the evening.

On Sunday, there's plenty to look forward to - including two exciting matchups that have never been seen before. The No. 7 seed Michigan State Spartans take on the No. 10 USC Trojans at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Under head coach Tom Izzo, the Spartans have made 25 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament - tying Duke's Mike Krzyzewski for school history. Additionally, this will be their first tournament since suffering a COVID-19 pandemic during their regular season that caused postseason cancellations.

UConn has made it to the Sweet 16 19 times and is a perennial national title contender. As a six-seed this year, they are coming off an 87-63 victory against Iona in the first round before knocking off No. 5 Saint Mary's in the second.

Huskies face a daunting challenge against Michigan's defense, which has allowed only three total touchdowns this season. But we believe they can prevail on their home court. After going 1-2 over/under this year and expecting no more than their 48-point loss to Syracuse, we're betting that the under is the way to go.

Last month, UConn rallied from a 17-point deficit to beat the Pirates 67-66 on KC Ndefo's game-winner. This time around, the Huskies are expected to be more resilient against an Ohio State offense that has accumulated 268 yards on the ground in two games this season.

2. Marquette vs. Michigan State

It's no secret that this March Madness has been anything but straightforward. Two top seeds, Kansas and Purdue, were eliminated in a shocking first-round upset, while Arizona and Virginia will also be leaving town. Millions of brackets have already been busted, but there remain several teams with potential in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds.

On Friday, the first round of the NCAA Tournament continues and you can follow all the latest bracket updates live here. A few upsets are in store - 13-seed Furman over 4-seed Virginia and 15-seed Princeton over 2-seed Arizona.

Meanwhile, the East Region appears to be wide open. The Boilermakers lost to Fairleigh Dickinson while Baylor, St. Mary's and Marquette all advanced to the Sweet 16.

MSU, as a 7 seed in the East Region, faces an uphill battle. They must first battle USC's highly capable team before facing No. 2 seed Marquette on Sunday afternoon.

Michigan State had a commanding 12-point lead early on against Marquette when the game began. While Kam Jones and Olivier-Maxence Prosper hit some timely 3-pointers to keep things close, MSU kept rolling on defense to build an even larger cushion.

Late in the first half, MSU's Carson Cooper hit a huge dunk to cap off an 11-0 run and take control of the game. That gave them a 33-28 advantage at halftime and they would go on to finish on a 5-0 run to secure their fourth consecutive victory.

MSU will aim for its best defense when it takes on Marquette in the Sweet 16 this weekend. The Golden Eagles boast the most prolific offense of any team in the Big Ten, averaging 83.3 points per game this season. However, they allow 3.6 more points away than at home, making it difficult to predict how this game will pan out. Furthermore, MSU must prepare themselves to defend beyond the arc; Marquette boasts a 36% shooting percentage from beyond the arc at home but just 41% when on the road.

3. Baylor vs. Houston

On Monday, Baylor and UConn will square off in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. These two schools have a longstanding rivalry that dates back to 2007, with each team winning six out of the last eight meetings.

UConn is a force in college basketball that has won 11 national championships under Geno Auriemma, while Baylor has claimed three. This matchup between two of the nation's top teams promises to be one of the most captivating matches throughout March Madness tournament history.

Both teams boast high-flying offenses that have grown stronger as the season has progressed. According to the NCAA, both squads are ranked among the top 25 for points per game, shooting percentage and field goal percentage.

On Monday night, if both teams play a competitive and hard-fought game, the victor will advance to the regional semifinals in Louisville. They'll face either sixth-seeded Creighton or 11th-seeded North Carolina State in the second round.

TNT will televise the game, starting at 9:00 PM ET. Fans can stream live streaming video from the event on fuboTV - who offer a free trial for March Madness fans - via fuboTV's free trial service.

There are a number of interesting storylines to watch in this matchup, including UConn star freshman Paige Bueckers. She's averaging 19.8 points this season and shooting 53 percent from the field and 46 percent from 3-point range. Additionally, she scored 18 and 20 points in her past two NCAA tournament games; furthermore, teammates Christyn Williams, Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Aaliyah Edwards are all averaging double figures as well.

This matchup provides fans with a thrilling opportunity to witness some of the top shooters in America go head-to-head in an intense game. Washington State leads both field goal percentage and 3-point shooting, while Baylor ranks fourth and fifth respectively.

Both teams are doing a fantastic job on defense, with both ranking in the top 10 for both categories. The Bears are allowing an impressive 60.3 points per game while Washington averages 68.7 points at home and 67.8 away from Madison Square Garden.

4. Gonzaga vs. TCU

On Sunday afternoon, the NCAA Tournament continues with Gonzaga Bulldogs taking on TCU Horned Frogs in a second round matchup. One team is likely to go home early while the other could potentially reach the Sweet 16.

On Friday night, TCU entered this contest with 29 wins on the season following a 12 point win against Grand Canyon. Defensively they controlled the game allowing only 70 points on 43.1% shooting but TCU forced 13 turnovers and pulled in 14 more rebounds to seal the victory.

On offense, the Bulldogs have been one of college basketball's most consistent teams this season, scoring 87.4 PPG and leading the nation in field goal percentage at 52.9% per game. Furthermore, they rank second nationally in point differential at +14.5.

They feature a number of players capable of scoring on any given night, such as Julian Strawther, Aaron Watson, Rasir Bolton and WCC Player of the Year Drew Timme. Furthermore, this team boasts considerable experience having made it past the first round seven out of eight years.

Due to this experience, they possess the capacity for playing with high intensity and tempo. Their offense is capable of getting up the rim quickly with its quick pace; however, defense needs improvement as well.

The Horned Frogs have had a few struggles this season, but they should still be able to make some plays in this game even without big man Eddie Lampkin Jr. Their offense relies on fastbreak opportunities and the slower tempo should help them get to the rim more often - which is exactly what they need if they want to come out on top in this one.

Gonzaga is a 4.5-point favorite against TCU, with the spread expected to remain unchanged before tip-off. This matchup offers good opportunities for those who enjoy betting on basketball but have a high risk tolerance. The oddsmakers expect Gonzaga's offense to dominate with its fast tempo attack.
