Look Jerry Jones Provides Update On Cowboys Interest In Odell Beckham Jr

On Tuesday, Jerry Jones provided an update on Dallas' interest in signing Odell Beckham Jr. Despite Sunday's incident at Miami International Airport where the free-agent wide receiver was removed from a flight, Jones indicated that they are still interested in bringing Beckham to Dallas for possible playoff runs.

1. OBJ’s Health

On his weekly radio interview with 105.3 The Fan, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones provided an update on their interest in free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He noted that the incident that caused Beckham Jr. to be removed from an American Airlines flight on Sunday did not have any bearing on their pursuit of him.

Recently, The New York Giants, Buffalo Bills and Cowboys all visited Beckham during his tour to assess his interest in returning to the NFL. However, no signing has yet taken place with any of those teams. Reports indicate that Beckham is seeking a multi-year deal worth $20 million annually.

But before the Cowboys can commit and sign OBJ to a contract, they need to guarantee his health. Ed Werder of ESPN reports that there is concern that Beckham's injury from the Super Bowl hasn't progressed enough for them to consider signing him yet; furthermore, Jones may feel uncertain about signing OBJ until 2023 due to potential delays.

No doubt, he would be an exciting player to have on your roster, but it's essential to remember that he hasn't played an NFL game since November. Additionally, due to the effects of his torn left ACL sustained during last February's Super Bowl, it could be that he won't be ready for an NFL regular season until later this month or early January.

He seems to be on the road to recovery, however he remains upbeat and appears to be making progress toward full health. With 21 catches for 288 yards and two scores in the playoffs this season, it seems likely that he has a bright future as an NFL player.

His high snag rate may make some teams reluctant to take a risk on him, and the receiver has also demonstrated an ability to be temperamental when not getting along with teammates - leading to some tension in the locker room.

If he can prove his health for the remainder of this season, he could become one of the top free-agents in 2023 - which many speculate is what motivated him to return to the NFL. With any luck, if he returns before then it will be an invaluable asset for any team looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.

2. The Cowboys’ Offense

On Sunday night, after the Cowboys defeated the Texans in a thrilling game, team owner Jerry Jones provided an update on their interest in free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He stated that OBJ, who had visited Dallas earlier this month, is close to signing a contract with the Cowboys.

The Cowboys boast a strong running game, but lack the capacity for much passing yardage. Nevertheless, their pass-rush win rate ranks fourth in the NFL and overall rush efficiency ranks third.

This offense is capable of scoring a lot of points and keeping opponents under pressure. Furthermore, the Cowboys don't take many sacks and don't turn the ball over too often.

One reason is their ability to get their tight ends open in space. On average, they make 33 attempts when running from 13 personnel (one receiver and one tight end) with a 27% chance of scoring on first downs. With healthy tight ends throughout the season, expect even more opportunities if these figures hold true.

Another reason the Cowboys boast such a formidable run game is their pass-rushing defense, which leads the NFL with 45 sacks this year and ranks sixth overall for hurry percentage, quarterback knockdown percentage, pressures and pressure percentage.

That is essential for a defense that needs to be able to stop the pass and create turnovers for its offense. Furthermore, it's crucial for any team hoping to reach the playoffs.

If the Cowboys can improve on their rushing offense, they could challenge teams like the Eagles for the NFC East title this season. At 10-4, Dallas clinched a playoff spot with their victory over the Texans on Sunday.

Jones revealed in an interview with Shan and RJ on Audacy's 105.3 The Fan that he wasn't sure when OBJ would return to the field, but still believes the receiver can help the Cowboys reach their objectives. That sentiment is particularly noteworthy since they need an elite receiver to compete for a championship.

3. Compatibility

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Tuesday provided an update on their team's pursuit of free-agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. While visiting local radio station KRLD-FM in Dallas, Jones stated that the recent incident that saw Beckham removed from a flight does not influence their desire to sign the former New York Giants star.

Jones' response echoes his longstanding desire to add Beckham as the Cowboys look to build on their strong start this season and maintain their lead in the NFC East. With eight games left, Dallas is second behind Philadelphia in the East but also sits atop the wild card standings - making adding a star player like Beckham all the more important.

The 30-year-old is a two-time Pro Bowler and has established himself as one of the premier receivers in the NFL, including with a Super Bowl win with the Rams. He can make big plays with the ball in his hands or run when necessary.

In his rookie season with the Giants, he set several rookie receiving records and helped lead them to an 11-5 record. Additionally, he made the playoffs for the first time, which he attributes to both his teammates and head coach Ben McAdoo.

Since Super Bowl LVI, Beckham has been on a rehab process. Though there's no guarantee he'll return in time to help the Cowboys this season, having an experienced receiver like OBJ could be key in helping them reach the postseason.

Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports that the Cowboys remain interested in Beckham despite their signing of T.Y. Hilton on December 12.

Though it may be a risk to gamble on an All-Pro receiver during this stalemate-filled stretch of the season, adding Beckham could help the Cowboys maintain their lead in the NFC East and even increase their chances of making the playoffs. Furthermore, adding another big-play threat to an already effective offense would provide some depth and could enable Dallas to take its next step toward rebuilding efforts.

4. Timetable

The NFL trade deadline has come and gone, yet there remain a host of key players on the market that could help teams make Super Bowl runs. One such player is three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Last year, Beckham joined the Los Angeles Rams and quickly made an impact on their success. His impressive play, including a game-winning catch against New England Patriots in Super Bowl LVI, helped seal their championship victory.

On November 9th, the Rams released Beckham and he became an unsigned free agent. Since then he's been heavily recruited by both the Rams and Buffalo Bills.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that Beckham is scheduled to visit three teams this week, including the Giants, Bills and Cowboys. His visits begin Thursday in Buffalo before continuing on Friday in Dallas.

It's excellent news for those hoping OBJ will sign with one of these teams, as their presence would make them strong contenders in the upcoming season. Unfortunately, it should be remembered that the process may take longer than anticipated.

Though his return to the NFL seems unlikely, former Giants star hasn't given up hope yet. On Twitter, he stated that he remains "very much interested" in playing again and plans to meet whoever wins on Thursday.

He expressed an interest in joining the Cowboys. On December 5, he sat courtside alongside Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs during a Phoenix Suns-Dallas Mavericks game.

But he also warned his fans that he may not be ready to play this season due to his recovery from a knee injury. This has sparked some speculation that he might wait until 2023, when his contract expires, before signing with another team.
