Ja Morant countersues teen accuser saying he threatened violence

Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant has been one of their leading stars this season, yet a lawsuit was recently filed against him for allegedly punching a minor during a pickup basketball game.

According to TMZ, a civil lawsuit was first initiated against Morant in Shelby County, Tenn. in 2021 but kept secret at that time. Now that it has become public knowledge, however, the suit alleges he hit an 18-year-old female student in the face.

The Grizzlies star’s legal team responded to the lawsuit

Ja Morant is one of the premier players in the NBA, but is currently experiencing problems off of it. According to reports, Morant was involved in two assault incidents this summer that were investigated by law enforcement officials.

In the first incident, a 17-year-old stated they were playing pickup basketball with Morant at their residence in Eads, Tennessee when things escalated. When throwing a ball towards Morant - who "accidentally" hit them both - things escalated even further. The youngster threw one at Morant who hit him "accidentally".

Teenager reported that he and Morant exchanged words before engaging in an altercation. At some point during this encounter, Morant is said to have struck the youngster with his closed fist before continuing to strike him while on the ground.

Reports indicate that the teenager told police he had an enormous knot on his head, as well as being punched 12 times by Morant, which left him unconscious.

He managed to awaken himself and call for assistance, eventually being transported by ambulance and treated at a hospital before being discharged after several days.

Later, he filed a police report alleging Morant threatened him. According to him, Morant threatened to return and light up the area.

The teenager said Morant attacked him by punching him in the head and face, knocking him to the ground before another individual joined in to attack.

Uncertainty remains as to whether or not the case of a 17-year-old filed in Shelby County, Tennessee in September will proceed to trial. Unfortunately, it has since been sealed.

As is always the case, it's worthwhile investigating any lawsuit filed against Morant and what charges have been laid out in it. While unlikely to result in his being banned from playing basketball altogether, such action could still have significant ramifications on his career and should be taken seriously.

Morant remains in an ideal position to lead Memphis Grizzlies into the playoffs, so it's crucial that he keeps his focus on basketball courts rather than letting off-court issues detract from doing his job - something which would only hinder their efforts and cause further issues with Morant. That would only doom their chances.

The incident happened on July 26

Ja Morant is one of the premier young players in the NBA today. In all four seasons of his professional basketball career he has earned All-NBA second team selection and won multiple awards such as Rookie of the Year and Most Improved Player.

Morant has also made headlines due to various incidents that have arisen during his career, including allegations of threatening a mall security guard and engaging in an off-court shouting match with a Fox Sports commentator that went viral.

TMZ reported that Memphis Grizzlies star Kevin Morant is being sued by a 17-year-old who accuses him of threatening violence during an encounter on July 26. According to reports, Morant assaulted the teenager while playing basketball at Morant's home.

Morant allegedly struck out, knocking down and striking again by another participant at the game. The teen reported this incident.

After the incident, the teen reported being left with a knot on his head. When deputies arrived at his house, they discovered he was still shocked and did not wish to be taken away by transport.

On July 26th 2022, this incident took place and his mother filed an assault report with Shelby County Sheriff's Office alleging that Morant assaulted him and left a knot on her son's head.

According to a police report, Morant is accused of jumping up and striking the teen repeatedly with closed fist strikes. After being knocked to the floor by Morant's attacks, another individual began assaulting him further.

Ultimately, the teenager told deputies that he feared for his life; Morant threatened to kill him, according to him.

Morant may find himself in an uncomfortable situation, yet had no choice but to defend himself in order to preserve his dignity and reputation. Morant's legal team responded swiftly to the lawsuit filed against them by the teen in question and are countersuing for damages caused by this incident.

The teen accused Morant of threatening violence

Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies is in legal hot water after he was accused of punching him multiple times during a pickup basketball game held at his home last year. A 17-year-old alleges that Morant hit them up to 13 times during this pickup game - leaving them with an apparent bruise to their side of their heads as a result of this event.

The teen reported to police that he and Morant were playing pickup basketball at his house in Eads, Tennessee when they got into an argument and began exchanging words before throwing a basketball at Morant that hit him "accidentally." Additionally, two other individuals became involved and one man made threats that if escorted off of his property that it would light up.

After the fight, he reported going back inside and seeing Morant with his hand on a firearm concealed in his waistband. When asked, Morant claimed he acted out of self-defense but admitting striking the teenager first as well as feeling they had initiated the violence.

According to TMZ, the teen filed a suit against Morant in September; it has now been sealed. His suit alleges that their parents were put in fear by his alleged threat, and that he suffered injuries as a result of this incident.

Uncertain if any charges will be filed, this incident was alarming nonetheless. According to her mother, her daughter became fearful to leave their home due to this event and felt unsafe outside.

She expressed concern that her child could be killed because of this alleged incident, though they do not know exactly what will come of it all. They remain hopeful, however, that they can work together towards finding an amicable resolution of this conflict.

Ja Morant, known for his Instagram fame and professional basketball career with Memphis Grizzlies since 2016, began at an early age and quickly amassed millions of followers online. Drafted second overall by them for 2019 NBA draft he quickly established himself in basketball world due to outstanding performances.

Morant’s legal team responded to the lawsuit

Ja Morant's legal team issued a response to the suit filed by a teenage girl alleging that Memphis Grizzlies star threatened violence against her. Per the suit, Morant made her life difficult by calling her an "ogre" and making statements like, "If anything comes my way...," as well as by stating he would stab her in the face - both claims which Morant denied in court documents.

Morant and his lawyers refuted this allegation by asserting that no such threats or warnings had ever been issued by Morant or his family members to anyone, including the parents of the teenage student involved. They further claimed they have never received any warnings from Morant regarding such behavior from him or them.

Temetrius Jamel "Ja" Morant was born August 10, 1999, in Dalzell, South Carolina to Tee and Jamie Morant. He grew up surrounded by sports-loving parents; Tee played basketball at Claflin University while his mom Jamie pursued softball during college.

Morant earned three all-region and two all-state selections during his high school years and attended Murray State University, where he earned first team all-American recognition as well as NCAA All-American status as a sophomore player.

Since early childhood, Ja has shown great passion for basketball. He began playing when he was very young and always desired becoming a professional basketball player.

The Memphis Grizzlies selected him with the second selection in 2019 NBA draft and he quickly won NBA Rookie of the Year honors, poised for an outstanding pro career ahead.

His family are extremely encouraging of his pursuits; his mother Jamie used to play basketball herself, and her sister Teniya is also active in sports.

He and his sister share an extremely close bond and often spend time together watching movies and playing video games.

Their love has led them to marry and welcome Kaari Jaidyn Morant into their lives, which can be seen on Instagram where they regularly post adorable photos of her!

Tee and Jamie met as teens while living in South Carolina and have since been in a relationship for over 15 years, having shared parenthood of both sons and a daughter together as well as enjoying traveling together.
