Hot events this week Celebrate 50 years of hiphop at Legendz of the Stree

For five decades, hip-hop music has revolutionized fashions and culture around the globe. From its humble Bronx roots it has grown into a multibillion dollar industry.

This week, Legends Recordings, Beats Rhymes and Relief and The Brand Liaison present "Hip Hop IS Black History," an art installation pop-up celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop and Black History Month from a social justice perspective.

Jeezy & Gucci Mane

Rappers Jeezy and Gucci Mane have reconciled their long-running feud and are set to embark on the Legendz of the Streetz Tour together. This marks the first time these two aging hitmakers will share stages since their 2021 joint tour.

Rick Ross, 2 Chainz and special guests Fabolous, Lil Kim, Trina and Boosie Badazz will join them on stage next month for an unprecedented concert experience. Fans will get to witness them in a whole new light as they perform together for the first time ever.

After years of animosity and a violent battle that saw Jeezy shoot Gucci, the two have finally come to terms. Their Verzuz battle in November 2020 sparked an intense discussion and ended with Jeezy praising his former rap rival for being mature enough to reach peace.

Over the weekend, Gucci Mane shared his reflections on his famous Verzuz battle with Jeezy in an interview with Rap Radar's Elliott Wilson and Brian "B.Dot" Miller at the 2022 REVOLT Summit. In it, he confessed to one regret.

According to the rapper, his performance of "Truth," a diss track that seemingly references Jeezy's deceased associate Pookie Loc, was an error on his part. He claims he was too aggressive in the song and wishes he could have made different choices.

Gucci Mane and Jeezy began an infamous feud when Gucci Mane refused to allow Jeezy to include his single "So Icy" on his debut album Thug Motivation 101. Over time, this disagreement escalated into a major source of tension within their relationship.

After their acquittal in May 2005, Gucci launched a verbal attack against Jeezy with his name-checking diss record. In the song, he asks "Do you smell p***y? Nah, that's me."

However, Gucci later clarified his words as intended to be humorous. Debra Antney - a former manager of Nicki Minaj - also challenged Gucci's claims about killing Pookie Loc and said the story wasn't accurate.

Over the past decade, Gucci Mane and Jeezy's beef has been a major topic of conversation. Many speculate that it stems from their shared Atlanta roots; both hail from same neighborhood but their rivalry has taken an entirely new level as they strive to prove who is the best in hip-hop.

Billy Joel & Elton John Brunch

Every song played brought out the crowd's unabashed singalong response. From FM radio staples like "Record Hits" and Joel's insightful observations of politically-savvy waitresses and career military men, to John's poignant "Piano Man," all capped off with Billy's heartfelt acoustic piano rendition - there was no shortage of crowd pleasers.

Since 2015, The Piano Men have been performing a musical tribute to two of Nashville's biggest legends - Elton John and Billy Joel. To their credit, their shows have consistently sold-out across Tennessee with high praise to match.

This high-energy 9-piece band performs faithful recreations of classic Elton and Billy hits from their legendary heyday, including "Rocket Man," "Bennie and the Jets," "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant," "You May Be Right" and more! They're renowned for their amazing talent, making them the ideal addition to City Winery's brunch show.

With more than 50 years of experience in the music industry, The Lords of 52nd Street have performed around the globe. They've shared stages with many legendary acts such as The Beatles, Joe Walsh and Barnstorm from Chicago, U2, Frank Zappa and Steely Dan.

Their debut album, "The Stranger," became a huge success for Columbia Records and they have several platinum albums to their name. Additionally, they have won numerous awards and had their songs recorded by many renowned artists.

Since their return in early 2016, The Lords of 52nd Street have been touring regularly. Both fans and critics have praised their live performances immensely.

Billy Joel has long been a fan of Elton John's work, and they have been working together for 25 years. Their duo has toured around the world, earning them many awards and honors during this period.

Morgan Wallen

Morgan Wallen is a controversial figure in country music, with fans both loving and loathing him. In an interview, Wallen acknowledged that while his fans offer criticism, they also show love in return. He believes these loyal followers have helped propel him to success - becoming one of Billboard's top artists for 2021.

The Texas-born, Nashville-based artist is renowned for infusing country, rock and hip hop influences into his music. His songs often carry strong emotional content that speaks directly to real people.

Before winning The Voice, Wallen had already begun performing with a band based in Houston. To audition for the show, he moved to Los Angeles and auditioned with an original cover of Howie Day's "Collide." His performance impressed the judges enough that Usher added Wallen to his team.

He then joined Adam Levine's team and performed with them in the final round. Finally, he found a label willing to work with him: Panacea Records signed him in 2015.

Once Wallen moved to California, he began working with Sergio Sanchez of Atom Smash - who had served as his vocal coach on the competition. Together they created country music tailored for Wallen's voice and rock & roll attitude.

In 2015, he released his debut single under Panacea Records and it skyrocketed to number 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart and earned gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America.

After that, he began collaborating with songwriters and producers, writing several songs for artists like Tyler Joe Miller. His album One Thing at a Time, released in March 2023, featured collaborations with artists such as Eric Church and Hardy.

Wallen has earned multiple awards and had numerous hit singles throughout his career, selling in excess of four million records worldwide.

Legendz of the Stree is hosting a three-day festival to commemorate 50 years of hip-hop at its 50th Anniversary. DA MARKET will offer fashion and beauty brands while DA MUSIC STAGE features performances and DJs. Additionally, Beats Rhymes & Relief's "Hip Hop IS Black History" Pop Up Museum will showcase this genre's history through an activist lens.
