Dr Mark Hyman on why aging is a treatable disease

Hyman is an internationally acclaimed leader, speaker, educator and advocate in the field of Functional Medicine. He founded and directs The UltraWellness Center and serves as Senior Advisor to the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine; additionally he's a fourteen-time New York Times best-selling author and serves on the Board President for Clinical Affairs for The Institute for Functional Medicine.

What Is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a medical discipline that promotes wellness through an integrative, systems-biology approach. While traditional (allopathic) medicine focuses on symptoms management, functional medicine targets the root causes of disease to prevent and treat chronic illnesses.

This innovative model of care is quickly gaining acceptance and revolutionizing healthcare. While not yet widely accepted by doctors, scientists are beginning to appreciate its advantages.

CCFM clinicians take a patient-centered, science-based approach to medicine that incorporates holistic and integrative treatments for chronic illnesses. This involves collecting comprehensive health histories, using laboratory testing and using this data to craft personalized treatment plans tailored specifically for each individual.

Contrary to traditional medical models, which focus only on treating isolated systems, functional medicine takes into account all aspects of a person's health - including diet and lifestyle. These elements play an integral role in maintaining optimal wellbeing.

What Is Food as Medicine?

Food as medicine is a health management approach that emphasizes dietary choices and healthy eating habits. It emphasizes increasing the consumption of whole, minimally processed plant-based foods while decreasing intakes of highly processed items with added sugars, salt, or saturated fats.

Many chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, hypertension and diabetes are caused by poor diets that are high in processed foods, added sugar and sodium. Eating a nutritious variety of leafy greens, beans, nuts, whole grains and produce like fruits and vegetables can help protect against these ailments by providing essential vitamins and minerals.

Physicians and other healthcare providers have long made food an integral part of their practices, prescribing nutritional changes or launching programs like "Shop with Your Doc" to motivate patients to make healthier lifestyle choices. These initiatives aim to reduce healthcare expenses while increasing positive outcomes.

What Is a Healthy Lifestyle?

A healthy lifestyle is about taking care of yourself - both physically and mentally. Eating nutritiously, getting plenty of rest, and staying physically fit are all part of it.

Exercise and a nutritious diet can extend one's life expectancy and improve their wellbeing. Not only does this reduce the risk of diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes, but it also helps them live a longer and healthier lifestyle overall.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a healthy lifestyle involves maintaining a body weight between 18-25 pounds and exercising for at least 30 minutes daily, five days a week.

He further advises avoiding saturated fat and sugar, as well as drinking plenty of water. In addition, eat a variety of foods from plants rather than meat or dairy products; and limit processed food consumption whenever possible.

Studies have demonstrated that those who lead a healthy lifestyle experience fewer health issues, such as depression and mental illness. Furthermore, they report higher energy levels, better sleep quality and reduced fatigue.

What Is a Healthy Diet?

Eating healthily is a key part of aging well. Not only does it help you maintain a healthy weight, stay energetic and get the nutrients needed to combat chronic illnesses like heart disease and diabetes, but it can also prevent them from occurring in the first place.

Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables as you age is one of the most essential things you can do for your health. These foods contain numerous benefits, as well as essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants.

Eating healthily is not only an excellent way to lift your mood, reduce stress and increase energy levels; but it may also lower the risk of certain chronic illnesses and help you live longer, healthier lives.

To start eating healthier, eliminate added sugars, saturated fats, and sodium from your meals. Instead, opt for whole grains and fresh produce like fruits and vegetables.

You can also substitute salt with herbs, spices and seasonings like dill, pepper, garlic powder and onions that have low sodium contents.

Another essential element of a nutritious diet is drinking plenty of water. Aim to get 6-8 glasses per day in order to stay hydrated and prevent dehydration.

What Is a Healthy Exercise Routine?

A healthy exercise program should include endurance, strength training and balance exercises that are easy to do. Low-impact activities like walking, jogging or biking are ideal for this purpose since they have minimal impact on the body but still provide benefits.

Exercising regularly not only helps you shed pounds, stay fit and fight the effects of aging, but it also strengthens your bones which may reduce the risk of osteoporosis, falls, heart disease or diabetes.

This drug improves your mood, promotes sleep quality, and combats anxiety and depression. Furthermore, it may prevent memory loss, enhance reflexes, and boost your sense of well-being.

For older adults, the recommendation is to get at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per week or an hour and 15 minutes of vigorous activity each week. Additionally, adding balance and flexibility exercises into your routine every day is highly recommended.

Starting slowly is the best approach when beginning any exercise program; gradually increase your time as your strength and capacity for more challenging exercises increases. It is especially essential to warm-up before beginning your workout and cool down afterwards with stretching or strolling slowly as great warm-up exercises.

What Is a Healthy Sleep Routine?

A healthy sleep routine is a series of habits designed to help you fall asleep quickly and stay asleep through the night. It includes activities like reading or listening to music before bed, as well as things that help you wind down and prepare for bed, like meditation or journaling.

Dr. Pena Orbea, M.D., a family medicine physician and sleep specialist, recommends maintaining an established sleep schedule as much as possible. Even if you need to adjust your wakeup time on weekends or during vacations, do your best to get back on the same schedule quickly after changing it up.

Your body has a built-in clock that regulates sleepiness and wakefulness. The more consistently you adhere to a consistent sleeping schedule, the smoother your internal clock will run.

Avoid caffeine and nicotine, which can disrupt your ability to fall asleep. It is especially important to eliminate these substances four to six hours before bed. Additionally, try your best to get as much natural light during the day so your body produces melatonin--a hormone associated with sleep--to promote deeper restful slumber.

What Is a Healthy Stress Management Routine?

A healthy stress management routine involves making thoughtful choices that strengthen your body's resilience to strain. That includes taking time for enjoyment, abstaining from harmful substances, and keeping your mind stimulated.

Stress management can help you control your emotions, keep those pesky smile lines away, and improve how well you cope with life's obstacles.

One of the best ways to manage stress is by building a supportive social network. Connecting with friends, family members, and coworkers not only increases resilience in times of hardship but also lowers your likelihood of developing chronic illnesses as well.

Some people find that spending time with a friend, talking, and venting helps them relax and feel better. Others discover that discussing their problems provides insight into how to resolve them, which in turn reduces stress levels.

Exercising is an integral part of a stress management plan, as it reduces stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Furthermore, exercise boosts the production of endorphins - brain chemicals that boost moods - which further contribute to stress relief.

What Is a Healthy Mindset?

A healthy mindset is a mental attitude that encourages wellness and self-care. It emphasizes positive thinking, optimism, and balance.

A healthy person believes they can achieve their objectives, yet they also know when it's time for a break. They understand the detrimental effects of excessive effort and overwork, so they strive to avoid it at all costs.

Healthy mindsets strive to continuously learn and grow. They don't let negative thoughts get the better of them, knowing that positive change can come through adding more positivity into their lives.

They recognize that failure is an essential part of learning, and it can shape them into better individuals in the long run. Instead of letting small setbacks discourage them, they use what lessons they've learned from these experiences to become stronger and more self-assured individuals.

One of the most beneficial things you can do for your health is finding a hobby or activity you enjoy. Finding something enjoyable will help you relax and reduce stress, making it an excellent way to spend your free moments!

What Happened on Late Timeout in Tennessee Basketball vs. Texas A&M?

Tennessee basketball made a costly error on a late timeout, leading to a 68-63 loss at Texas A&M. It was their fifth straight defeat and likely spells the end for their NCAA Tournament hopes.

That was also UT's fifth game in a row with more turnovers than points scored; that trend has occurred in all SEC games thus far, which does not bode well for their chances of winning the championship.

Tyrece Radford tumbled to the floor.

Tuesday night the Aggies came into their game against the Volunteers ranked eighth in the country. This crucial SEC matchup would help them solidify their place within the conference and put them on track for an NCAA Tournament bid.

Texas A&M started the game off strong and scored many points off turnovers, but Tennessee's offense stayed on top and kept the ball in play for most of the night. Unfortunately, Tennessee's defense could not stop Texas A&M from scoring and allowed them to open up a 12-point lead with 6:52 remaining in the contest.

With just under four minutes left on the clock, Texas A&M called timeout with a chance to cut into Tennessee's lead. A few seconds later, Tyreeke Radford hit a three-pointer that cut the Volunteers' advantage to 59-56.

No matter the score, Tennessee had enough talent to come back and win. Antonio Barton and Jarnell Stokes combined for 38 points, while other Volunteers players put in impressive performances as well.

In addition to Barton and Stokes, Jordan McRae contributed 33 minutes while Jeronne Maymon and Josh Richardson played 32. Had other Tennessee players not fouled out, they could have been even more effective and contributed significantly more to this game.

With just under two minutes left in a game that was tied and trailing by three, Martin called timeout. Whether this move was wise or unwise for Tennessee, it does appear bizarre to call for such a break with just under two minutes remaining.

At A&M, they took advantage of a timeout and went on a 10-5 run that saw them score 12 points in less than two minutes. At halftime, A&M led 57-56; however, Tennessee's 12-5 run turned the tide of the game in their favor and put them ahead 57-56 going into the break.

The second quarter saw numerous fumbles, as the Volunteers were able to steal the ball away from A&M's defense. This made it difficult for the Aggies to stay with Tennessee, giving them plenty of room to make runs at the end of the half.

Antonio Barton made a three-pointer.

On Saturday night, it appeared Tennessee had a chance to tie Texas A&M at the end of regulation. The Tigers were down by three points and needed a basket to avoid an upset. As Tennessee waited for their shot, Coach Lawrence Martin called a timeout.

With time running out and the ball in Barton's hands, he decided to take the shot. It will likely go down in Tennessee program history as one of the most remarkable plays ever seen.

But it also demonstrated the type of player Tennessee needs on its roster right now: someone willing to take shots when presented with an opportunity.

After missing his initial shot, Barton collected the rebound and took another attempt. With a quick pass from JaMychal Green, he knocked down another three-pointer for an impressive comeback victory.

Barton's triple was the first shot from beyond the arc he ever took in a game, and it also tied his franchise record for most three-pointers made in a game with that trey.

In addition to his three-pointer, Barton made a layup and two free throws to help the Tigers secure victory. While it wasn't his best performance, it was still an impressive showing nonetheless.

Barton's numbers may not be particularly impressive - he averaged less than 7 points per game over his two seasons with Memphis - but they do depict a steady player who never struggled to overcome inconsistency. He never shot below 40% from three-point range and rarely had more than 1.3 turnovers per game.

He is on track to become the sixth player in NBA history to score 100 career points during his rookie season with the Nuggets, and should remain a staple of Denver's rotation going forward.

Barton, who will turn 26 in November, has made over 120 points this season - a franchise record for most points made in one year - and is on pace to surpass that mark later this week. He's been an effective presence for Denver over the last few months with 15.1 points and five rebounds per game while helping the Nuggets win six games during that stretch.

Jarnell Stokes made a layup.

After a late timeout, Tennessee basketball coach Cuanzo Martin decided it might be wise to let his team take one last shot at scoring. It proved successful as Antonio Barton made a three-pointer as time ran out on the clock.

With 2:45 left, the Vols found themselves down by two with 2:45 remaining. But a couple of turnovers on their next two possessions enabled McRae and Richardson to score, pulling Tennessee within 72-69. With just six seconds remaining and the ball in their hands, Stokes had an opportunity for a go-ahead shot but missed it and was called for a charge.

It's difficult to tell whether Tennessee's victory against Mississippi State on Wednesday is a foreboding sign or an indication of what could come down the stretch. With two wins under their belts, Tennessee should be well on their way towards earning an at-large bid unless they falter down the stretch like they did Saturday.

Texas A&M took an early lead, but Texas Tech used a 10-2 run to tie the game and force overtime. After Fabyon Harris (34 minutes; 13 points / 6-11 FG / 2-2 3PT) and Alex Caruso (30 minutes; 14 points / 7 assists / 4-10 FG) got things going in the first half for Texas A&M, they went cold late.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope of Georgia scored 24 points and ignited their 3-point shooting attack with his 11-of-20 performance. Kenny Gaines added 12 points while Vincent Williams contributed 10 for the Bulldogs, who won their fourth consecutive SEC game.

Tennessee surrendered an eight-point lead in the first half and never led again. Additionally, they shot just 38 percent from the field during that span and committed 16 turnovers.

The Vols rallied, however, and Jarnell Stokes (43 minutes; 16 points / 11 rebounds / 5-6 FG) had an outstanding night, scoring 17 of his 19 points in the second half alone. Jordan McRae added 13 of his 17 points in the first half alone while Jeronne Maymon scored a career-high 11 points off the bench.

Texas A&M made two free throws.

With less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, Tennessee coach Rick Barnes called a timeout. He had been watching the ball for over one minute and was ready to call a timeout.

What transpired on that late timeout was nothing short of miraculous. The Aggies (21-7, 13-2) scored six straight points to come back from a 12-point deficit and secure an incredible 68-63 victory over the Volunteers (20-8, 9-6).

After Tennessee took a 12-point lead into the third quarter, Texas A&M unleashed an unstoppable offensive show to open up an eight-point advantage at halftime. A 13-5 run ignited by Julius Marble and Wade Taylor IV saw the Aggies outshoot the Volunteers 40-26 in the opening 16 minutes of play, setting their momentum never to waver from there.

After Tennessee took a lead in the second half, Texas A&M redoubled their efforts to maintain it at a slim margin - which they did for much of the fourth quarter as well. After Tyrece Radford's layup gave the Aggies a three-point advantage with just under four minutes remaining, Andersson Garcia and Zakai Zeigler each hit 3-pointers to extend that advantage even further.

On the Volunteers' next possession, Caruso drew a foul on a screen set by Jones and euro-stepped past Jesperson before sinking the free throw with just over 32.5 seconds left in the shot clock. Meanwhile, Admon Gilder came rushing in for an offensive rebound as Jones' defenders had the ball slowed to a crawl by their own defenders.

With just under two minutes left in the game, Texas A&M took a commanding lead with Admon Gilder's long dribble and Julius Marble's quick basket. The Vols didn't score again until 5:35 of the fourth quarter when Zakai Zeigler made a layup to cut their deficit to four points.

After that, the Volunteers struggled on the offensive glass as Texas A&M maintained its edge on defense. In the fourth quarter alone, Texas A&M went 5 for 12 from the charity stripe and outrebounded the Volunteers 35-32.

Growth is expected to accelerate in 2022, yet there remain several obstacles for the company. China's COVID-19 pandemic is one such issue affecting procedure volume.

The company's stock has performed admirably over the long term, producing average annual returns of 16.5% over the past 10 years - more than enough to justify its high price tag.

Mobileye Global (NASDAQ:MBLY)

Mobileye Global (NASDAQ:MBLY) has seen incredible success this past year, surging 50% within one week after its IPO. Analysts are incredibly bullish on this stock as it's one of the only pure play robotaxi stocks available on the market.

Mobileye has achieved remarkable success in ADAS innovation, and is now focused on further developing autonomous driving technologies. Its strategic decision of using a crowdsourced HD map has allowed it to expand operations into multiple regions and markets around the world rather than being limited to geofenced locations where most other players are stuck.

It has also joined forces with Intel (INTC) for peripherals like lidar and radar, enabling it to create cost-effective systems. Furthermore, its in-house software and hardware solutions should allow it to charge competitive prices for consumer AVs when they launch in 2024-2025.

Its ADAS business should remain strong and profitable for years to come, providing it with ample cash to invest in its autonomous vehicle program. This should help it stay ahead of competition, driving growth over time. Furthermore, its IPO allowed it to reinvest some of that cash back to investors, potentially increasing share float.

Operating income declined to 24% from 30% for 2021 due to higher Research, Development and Engineering (RD&E) costs on both a yearly and sequential basis, as well as lower gross margin. Palantir (NYSE:PLTR)

Palantir (NYSE:PLTR) has seen its share price soar more than 120% in the last week, propelled by high retail investor interest in big data and analytics stocks. After remaining flat since its late September debut, PLTR's shares have seen an unprecedented surge in value.

Wall Street was surprised by the company's Q4 2020 earnings report, which exceeded Wall Street expectations and promised a GAAP profit in 2023. Nonetheless, some analysts are worried about revenue growth slowing down and unpredictability in large customer deals compared to other SaaS (Software as a Service) firms with more predictable revenues streams.

Another factor contributing to the rally is Palantir's expiring post-IPO lock-up period, which means more shares are available for trading. This should encourage investors to buy shares of PLTR.

Palantir's government business, which generates most of its revenues, is growing slowly while commercial operations face difficulties. This could have an adverse effect on stock prices in the short-term. But if they can successfully expand their corporate user base, these issues should be mitigated over time.

Additionally, the company's ad revenue has seen a remarkable surge since live sports streaming provider fuboTV adopted their user identification protocol to boost revenues from advertising. Furthermore, their technology enables companies to improve audience targeting and maximize return on investment.

While The Trade Desk's growth is projected to slow in 2022, it still looks set to outperform the digital ad market. According to market research firm eMarketer, digital advertisement spending is projected to rise at an average annual rate of 8.6% through 2022, giving The Trade Desk room to expand their addressable market and fuel strong revenue growth in the future.

Furthermore, its leadership anticipates it will achieve adjusted EBITDA positive territory by the third quarter of fiscal 2023, ahead of previous guidance which called for this to occur sometime during fiscal 2024.

One of the primary drivers of this company's financial performance is its Cologuard stool-based DNA screening test, which helps physicians detect colorectal cancer and pre-cancer before they progress. Oncotype DX and Oncotype Test provide genetic-based treatment selection tests for breast, prostate and colon cancers; Oncomap ExTra provides an entire biological profile for certain refractory and rare types of cancer.
