At this year's Oscars, there is fierce competition for the best original song title. Lady Gaga's Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick, Rihanna's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," and BloodPop's "Take My Breath Away" all earned nominations - but which song will emerge victor?

Nominating five songs for the Academy Awards in 2023 can be a tough race, but ultimately we'll likely decide who wins by how much fun we have listening to them. So here are our picks for the five songs nominated to represent America at these prestigious awards in 2023.

Naatu Naatu

RRR's "Naatu Naatu" has been making waves ever since its release, earning it both a Golden Globe award and potential Oscar win this year. With its infectious dance rhythm, the song could potentially go on to win both these prestigious awards!

Fans of the film are overjoyed, but it's an even greater accomplishment for Indian music: Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, who co-starred alongside Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in Ram Charan's movie, as well as director S. S. Rajamouli who took a risk with such an ambitious multi-star blockbuster.

This song is an infectious joy that celebrates the warmth of dance and camaraderie. It serves as a prime example of how one musical moment can serve as an effective vehicle for storytelling.

Though the song doesn't really convey any profound messages, its energetic dance battle in RRR does a great job of showing just how powerful dance can be. And elegance doesn't need to be all that matters either - as RRR's energetic performance proves.

The fast-paced music and energetic dancing of RRR captures the spirit of RRR, which tells the story of two heroes who battled to free India from British colonialism in 1920s. Kanukuntla Subhash Chandrabose wrote the lyrics based on memories from his childhood that focus on their bond as superheroes - an image which resonated with audiences.

Sipligunj and Bhairava joined a sea of dancers to deliver an upbeat rendition that ignited the crowd. This stirring performance, coupled with its Oscar nomination, made for one of the most unforgettable moments from this year's awards ceremony.

As such, the song is expected to remain a classic for years to come. Its infectious beat has inspired an international following and now, with the Oscars, there is an ideal platform to promote it further.

Before you listen to this song, there are a few things you should be aware of: its name translates to "dance dance" in Telugu and it celebrates the spirit of dancing and goodwill.

Applause

Applause, also known as "clapping," is an expression of approval or disapproval that involves joining hands to make a loud noise. It can be used to show approval or disapproval for something such as a song or performance.

Musicians frequently utilize it, but it also plays an integral role in sports or theatre performances. Following each piece or act, there may be a standing ovation to encourage the artist to continue performing.

People in the entertainment industry have long sought applause from audiences to demonstrate their approval of performers and their work. This practice still exists today and dates back millennia.

This year's Academy Awards promise some stunning musical performances, from Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga's romantic rendition of Shallow to Common and John Legend's powerful rendition of Glory. But one of the most captivating moments will come when all the Best Original Song nominees take the stage to sing their songs live.

While some of the nominees will perform traditional dance numbers, others will sing ballads about love, life, and family. No matter if you're into dance or not, the nominations for the 2023 Academy Awards guarantee to have some tracks that you'll be listening to for years to come.

For decades, the Best Original Song category of the Oscars has been a beloved staple. This year's selection features unforgettable tunes that will surely have you dancing along on March 12th! From viral dance numbers to ballads by big-name pop stars, these nominations guarantee to leave you feeling fulfilled on this memorable evening!

One of the most intriguing nominees is singer Sofia Carson. Her track "Applause" is an inspiring message of self-love and empowerment written by Diane Warren - a 14-time Oscar nominee herself.

Carson stood beneath a halo of lights and performed with help from her string section and pianist. Throughout her song, Carson even invited all women in the audience to give her some well-deserved claps.

This Is a Life

Mitski and David Byrne's duet "This Is a Life" from Everything Everywhere All at Once earned them an Oscar nomination in the best original song category - an impressive accomplishment for an indie pop-rock artist who is not known to be particularly gifted at writing. This nomination came as a shock to many since it is one of only three songs nominated that weren't already featured in the film itself.

Other than one exception, the 2023 Academy Awards music nominees are quite varied. Some big names appear on the list, such as Rihanna and Lady Gaga; but there are also lesser-known artists who have earned Oscar nominations such as experimental rock band Son Lux and talented songwriters Ryan Lott and David Byrne.

This movie follows two Harlem men who are wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to over six decades in a Mississippi work camp. Throughout their ordeal, they maintain an intense friendship that endures even during prison.

Although this film doesn't contain much action or comedy, it does address some serious topics and features some great performances from its starry cast - Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Annette Bening and Antonio Banderas.

There are moments in this movie which may be difficult to watch, especially for those with children. For instance, one scene involves one character getting shot at close range; other scenes feature a bloody fistfight and the tragic death of a Black character by an evil Mississippi sheriff.

Unfortunately, this movie didn't receive a higher score than it deserved. Nonetheless, it does boast some lovely music and some excellent moments of comedy.

If you're a fan of indie music, this event is a must-attend. You'll get to hear new voices and uncover some hidden gems!

This movie has been rated R for violence and sexual content, as well as some explicit language. If you have young kids at home, be sure to discuss this content with them beforehand.

This Is a Life is an engaging movie that examines some real-life scenarios and asks the question, what would Jesus do in these circumstances? Although it may be graphic at times, its haunting yet beautiful portrayal of these issues makes it worth watching.

RRR

RRR is the latest Telugu film to hit theatres. It tells the story of two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr NTR), who helped liberate India from British colonial rule during the 1920s.

The film follows two heroes as they strive to overthrow a brutal dictatorship. It's an intense and action-packed journey unlike anything we've seen before, featuring some of cinema history's most creative action sequences.

It also features one of the most captivating bromances we've seen in some time, with Alluri and Komaram bonding over their shared passion for justice. Their relationship resembles that of a brotherhood, with this bond serving as a major theme throughout the film.

But the movie is not without its faults, which are mostly related to its context. India's current political climate is heavily dominated by Hindutva, fuelling a wave of nationalistic fever that encourages xenophobia and calls for violence against oppressed groups.

Movies such as RRR that fan the flames and push a Hindutva agenda can be challenging to watch. These films often depict foreign Muslim invaders or evil Muslims tarnishing the image of a valiant Hindu hero.

Though these portrayals are admirable and poignant, they are part of an overall trend that is reshaping Indian culture and its representation of history. This troubling development is being fuelled by upper-caste Hindu vision, yet it does not help address India's deep-seated societal problems.

On the plus side, RRR has earned an impressive array of awards and nominations. It won Critics' Choice Awards for both best original song and best international film, plus won a Golden Globe for best original song.

The film has also been nominated for Best Visual Effects and may take home the award for best original score. These are some of the most prestigious accolades the project could receive, and it should be immensely proud if these prizes come its way.
