Last week, Romania's most prominent social media star, Andrew Tate, was arrested for human trafficking and rape. As soon as his arrest became public knowledge, his fans spread misinformation. An Observer analysis of TikTok and Twitter shows a flood of posts falsely claiming he had been released and conspiracy theories suggesting he had been set up.

1. Inna Stan

Inna Stan is Romania's most beloved social media star, boasting 3.7 million fans on Facebook in November alone. She shares photos of her travels, backstage sessions and concert dates regularly and each post receives hundreds of likes and heartfelt comments. Furthermore, Inna's Twitter account has been verified with close to 125,000 followers.

The Romanian singer is part of a new breed of dance music artists. Most are in their twenties and all share an enthusiasm for creating party tunes that get people up on the dance floor.

She is widely recognized for revolutionizing pop music in her native Romania with her debut single, "Hot," which reached number one on the Romanian charts and quickly went on to become a worldwide hit across Europe and the US.

Her success spawned several other Romanian EDM stars, such as Alex Velea and Senzor, who all achieved international success. Additionally, she collaborated with other dance music luminaries such as J Balvin and Daddy Yankee.

She is one of the most well-known and successful female artists in the region, having released eight studio albums and earning numerous awards and nominations along the way.

Her most recent album, Nirvana, is a blend of dance music and pop influences. Its songs have been played millions of times on radio and Spotify, with more than two million copies sold worldwide.

Despite her international success, she still has much work to do. In the coming years, she plans on releasing several albums including an English-language version of her last album Nirvana which will be released in September.

At present, however, she is focusing on writing and producing her own music. She recently signed a deal with Atlantic Records in America, as well as joining Alexandra Stan on "We Wanna," an upbeat song.

She has composed music for other artists and recorded and produced some of her own songs, with hopes to release more in the near future.

2. Alexandra Stan

Alexandra Stan is one of Romania's most renowned social media stars. She boasts an enviable following on both Instagram and Twitter, sharing pictures of herself performing live while promoting her new music.

At an early age, she developed an interest in music. At the age of 10, she started taking singing lessons and soon after that began writing her own songs. Over time, producers and musicians from different regions in Romania helped her hone her vocal abilities.

Her career took off after signing a contract with Romanian producers Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi. This collaboration proved instrumental to her success, providing her with the platform to express herself creatively through music.

She made her international debut with the hit single 'Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)'. Since then, she has released several other chart-topping hits such as 'Mr. Saxobeat', 'Lemonade' and 'Get Back (ASAP)'.

She also collaborated with artists like Mohombi, Connect-R and Inna. In 2014 she released her second album entitled 'Unlocked' which featured the hit single 'Dance' and went on to become a success in Japan, reaching number 20 on the album charts.

This album featured a wide range of genres and styles. It became an instant classic in Romania, enjoying commercial success as it showcased various talent.

Her success did not come without its share of challenges; ultimately, her relationship with manager Marcel Prodan came to a conclusion.

As news of the dispute spread, lawmaker Remus Cernea demanded tougher legislation against domestic violence and noted how often Romanian media failed to adequately cover it.

On Saturday morning, police spokesman Gelu Manolescu reported that Stan was taken from the roadside where she had been fighting with Prodan and taken to hospital for treatment. She was later released after being treated and released.

Stan has earned numerous accolades throughout her career, and was twice nominated for Best Romanian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards (2011) and 2012.

Her music blends elements of eurodance, pop and dance with influences from her native country and other global music trends. As one of Europe's biggest pop stars, she has amassed a large fan base and is renowned for her distinctive style of music.

3. Izidor Stan

One of Romania's most beloved social media stars, Izidor Stan, is making waves in music with his unique blend of American hip-hop, Balkan spices and European accents. Additionally, his message of self-worth and confidence resonates strongly throughout his songs.

Izidor, a polio survivor, attributes God's unconditional love for enabling him to live independently and lead an enjoyable life. He was raised in an orphanage in Romania's north and suffered years of severe childhood trauma. He gives credit to his adoptive parents for their encouragement and says they gave him the freedom to be himself.

He boasts a large following on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook; however he was recently reinstated from these platforms after being banned in August 2022.

Tate has achieved great success on these social media platforms, yet he has made some controversial statements. He has said that rape victims should bear responsibility for their assaults, questioned why women can drive and boasted about how he would hit a woman who accused him of cheating.

In February, Romanian police detained him as part of a sex trafficking investigation. An official with the anti-organized crime unit DIICOT noted that he was allegedly accompanied by his brother Tristan when arrested.

DIICOT released a statement accusing the brothers of organizing an organized criminal group to sexually exploit people. This group, based in Ilfov county, has been disseminating pornographic material via social media platforms.

Thursday afternoon, Tate was arrested in Ilfov county with his brother - a British professional kickboxer - and two Romanians suspected of participating in the group. A spokesperson from the Romanian prosecutor's office informed The Washington Post that authorities have authorized authorities to hold them for up to 30 days.

He was handcuffed by masked law enforcement officers near DIICOT headquarters and had his luxury cars, such as a Rolls-Royce and Ferrari, confiscated.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson, the brothers denied any wrongdoing. They maintained that the raid on their home was simply "swatting," or fabricating a report to look like an actual crime.

4. Irina Stan

Irina Stan is a Romanian singer-songwriter who has achieved international success through the release of numerous hits. With 360 million views on YouTube, her honest songs about love have gained her fans worldwide.

She serves on the jury for Vocea Romaniei, Romania's national music competition, and her albums have been certified diamond in Romania. In addition to these accomplishments, she has won multiple awards and had her music featured in multiple films.

Irina Stan is renowned on social media for her narcissistic posts and trolls, but she also has an inspiring passion for creating music. In this documentary, we get an exclusive look into her life as a musician and her journey to release her debut album.

The film depicts Irina as an emotionally charged individual, suffering from excessive stress and anxiety in her life. Although she has a supportive network of family and friends, it's evident that she doesn't get enough time to focus on her music career. She claims she struggles to find peace and is constantly worried about failing at being an accomplished musician.

Irina knows it will be a challenge, but she is determined to succeed. She wants to connect with people from her native Romania and Moldova both musically and personally.

Her journey begins in Bucharest, Romania's capital city. There she visits her family and friends and spends time with her mother. Additionally, she travels to Soroca, Moldova where she renews a friendship with her former singing teacher.

As she travels, Irina stops in different cities to connect with her fans in a personal way. The documentary highlights her genuine nature as she is willing to share about her feelings with those she encounters along the way.

She displays patience and empathy, allowing viewers to see into her heart and soul. One of the most touching scenes in this film occurs when Irina meets her father, who is suffering from schizophrenia, as they discuss their pasts and ideals of happiness.
