A Quick Guide to Kaytranada's Music Ahead of His Performance at Milk + Cookies Festival

Kaytranada will headline Milk + Cookies Festival this Friday in Atlanta. Curated by Milk & Cookies and RenderATL, the festival features food trucks, bars, art, community, tech and music; Kaytranada will be joined onstage by DJ Unruely of Canterbury Talez fame, Badass Sha Shane Talon Divine Interface DJ EU to name just a few of his fellow performers. 1. Kaytranada & Amine As summer arrives in full force, Portland rapper Amine and Canadian producer Kaytranada joined forces for KAYTRAMINE. Following a year-long gap between Amine's 2021 project TWOPOINTFIVE and Kaytranada's own Intimidated EP releases, their creative chemistry came to the fore with this record filled with summery vibes and dancefloor heat. "4EVA," Pharrell-assisted single that showcased Amine's smooth rapping over an infectious beat, quickly became the lead single from Amine's debut LP. Production quality hit that perfect balance between sweaty nightclub dance floor and tipsy summer block party vibe. His second track on the project, "Rebuke," stood out even further, boasting beautiful samples and an effective beat switch. Kaytranada has earned himself an expansive fan base due to his eclectic production style, and this 11 track project is no different. While some songs resemble summer anthems, each has a distinct character and tempo suitable for any setting - making this album truly captivating! With collaborations from Snoop Dogg ("EYE"), Big Sean ("MASTER P"), Freddie Gibbs ("LETSTALKABOUTIT"), Amaarae ("SOSSAUP") and more on offer this LP should prove particularly captivating! 2. Kaytranada & DJ Unruely Kaytranada first emerged during the early 2010s with an array of captivating remixes inspired by J Dilla-esque hip-hop beats and house grooves, gradually building his fan base through mixtapes and commissioned productions before debuting with 99.9% in 2016 which would go on to receive both the Polaris Music Prize and Juno Award. Kaytranada has long embraced change within his musical DNA; from initial trap and electronic dance influences to more R&B influences and back again. He's constantly exploring new sounds while expanding on old ones - even sampling traditional Haitian compas (or kompa), an amalgamation of African, Cuban and European ballroom styles that was common decades ago. Kaytranada told Zane Lowe shortly after the release of Bubba that he created many tracks which ultimately didn't make the cut, including this one which clearly wasn't. Even so, its deep late-night vibe and strobing synths still serve to showcase his production skills, particularly his energetic percussion additions which provide just the right amount of swing. 3. Kaytranada & The Canterbury Talez Louis Celestin aka Kaytranada has built up quite the resume in the past decade as an accomplished remix savant, adapting R&B classics into thrilling club tracks and beat-scene anthems with ease. His signature sound of reverb-y handclaps, crisp hi-hats and extraterrestrial synths provided ideal backing vocals that won over numerous rappers; most recently his collaboration with MC Amine known as Kaytramine saw Pharrell Williams and Snoop Dogg as well as Ghanaian singer Amaarae featured prominently. This album takes an in-depth look into Canterbury's rich progressive music history, featuring musicians like David Sinclair (Hatfield and the North, Zobe), Bill MacCormick (Matching Mole, Quiet Sun), Jeremy Caravan (Caravan), Robert Jan Stips (SuperSister), Neil Fairclough (Delivery National Health), Peter Christopherson (Gong) and Didier Malherbe (Hatfield and the North Gong). The album pays a fitting homage to England's mid/late 60s avant-garde jazz scene that inspired artists such as Pink Floyd and Brian Eno. Each track showcases both artists at their peak abilities - an apt tribute indeed! 4. Kaytranada & DJ EU Louis Kevin Celestin, better known by his stage name Kaytranada, hails from Montreal and began producing at an early age using various audio production software programs. Kaytranada quickly developed an innate understanding of dance music production that only comes with years of practice using these systems. Furthermore, this gifted musician recognizes the value of hard work ethics while constantly seeking ways to perfect his craft. Kaytranada first rose to fame through his R&B-influenced bootleg remixes of iconic artists like Janet Jackson, Missy Elliot, TLC and Danny Brown which earned millions of views on Soundcloud and YouTube - helping pave the way for his debut album "99.9%" and subsequent follow-up "Bubba", both which continue propel him towards stardom. Kaytranada's performance envelopes the audience in his electrifying beats. Fans quickly become mesmerized on the dance floor as their bodies move uncontrollably around. Bass penetrates deeply into their beings to give a spiritual-like experience. RenderATL's Milk + Cookies Festival is an irresistibly delicious dessert-themed event offering attendees the rare chance to witness Kaytranada perform live! Alongside other performers such as DJ Unruely & The Canterbury Tales, DJ EU, and Shane Talon - it promises to become an extraordinary sensory experience at Old Fourth Ward Skate Park! 7. Kaytranada & Decoteau Montreal-based producer Laika is known as an expert remixer, masterfully turning R&B classics like Janet Jackson's "If" and TLC's "Creep" into infectious club tracks and beat scene anthems. His signature sound - which includes reverb-y handclaps, crisp hi-hats, extraterrestrial synths, and heavy hip-hop influence with an edge - stands out amongst his peers. Kaytranada recently collaborated with rapper Amine to release Kaytramine, an album which perfectly blends their respective styles. Featuring superstar guests like Pharrell Williams, Amaarae and Snoop Dogg on Kaytramine, it showcases Kaytranada's talent for stacking samples like building blocks to craft fresh beats with vintage influences while Amine stands out with her entertaining yet technically proficient MCing that's not afraid of making danceable songs or cracking jokes - making Kaytramine an impressive work-in-progress! On Friday at Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward Park, this unmistakably groove-infused musician will headline Milk + Cookies Festival as one of many musical virtuosos; among them DJ Unruely, The Canterbury Talez, Badass Sha, DJ Shane Talon, DJ EU Decoteau and Divine Interface will provide their respective DJ sets.
