After a recent upgrade, the GLS-Class SUV is getting another makeover in 2024. Like its siblings, this three-row vehicle will receive new styling details, upgraded features and some models even get powertrain improvements.
The standard GLS450 model receives a slight power upgrade. It now boasts a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that produces 375 horsepower, up from last year's 362 horsepower.
Mercedes-Benz's largest SUV, the 2024 GLS 63, receives an update that brings subtle styling changes and feature upgrades. Most notably, its front fascia looks bigger with additional slats on regular models; additionally, AMG variants of this model year only gain exclusive features.
Inside, the GLS 600 receives new leather colors, glossy brown lime wood trim and gloss black piano lacquer elements inspired by Maybach GLS 600 (renamed to "GLS 500e") for its interior.
Other features include Burmester premium audio, 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, heated and ventilated front seats, red-painted brake calipers for this year, plus a new steering wheel to complete the cabin.
The 2024 GLS 63 boasts impressive safety equipment. It comes with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, driver monitoring and LED exterior lighting as standard features. Furthermore, a Driver Assistance package is available that enhances these features even further with active versions.
On the dashboard of Mercedes-Benz's E Class sedan are two 12-inch digital displays: one serving as a gauge display running Mercedes-Benz's MBUX infotainment system, the other providing all driver information. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features as is onboard Wi-Fi access.
Another notable upgrade is the 2024 GLS 63's steering wheel, which boasts two side spokes that each house a bank of capacitive touch buttons. This enables you to customize it according to your driving needs and preferences.
The interior is getting some updates for the 2024 model year, including more color choices and 19-inch wheels. Additionally, the GLS 63 gains a performance exhaust as well as standard features like heated/ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and wireless phone charging.
Powerfully, the 2024 GLS 63's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 remains unchanged at 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque with hybrid assist. Meanwhile, the GLS 450's 3.0liter inline-four has been enhanced to 375 horsepower while the GLS 580 boasts a 4.0-liter V8 producing 510 horsepower.
Mercedes-Benz GLS, the flagship model of their lineup, receives an upgrade for 2024. This includes minor tweaks to both standard GLS 450 and 580 models as well as more significant updates for AMG and Maybach variants.
Previously, the GLS was somewhat underwhelming. But with a fresh look and several new features, it has become much more appealing. Whether you opt for the standard version or AMG variant, the new model comes better equipped than its predecessor.
For starters, the standard GLS 450 now produces 375 horsepower while the GLS 580 boasts 510 hp. Both models use a nine-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive as standard equipment, and the latter also gets an upgraded Burmester sound system.
Minor improvements have been made to the interior as well. The dashboard now boasts two new displays - one serving as a digital instrument cluster and another showing infotainment content. The MBUX multimedia system offers three graphic styles and seven color schemes for customization.
Additionally, both standard and AMG GLS 63 models now offer new leather upholstery options such as Catalana Beige or Bahia Brown leather in either High-Gloss Brown Linden Wood or Manufaktur Piano Lacquer Flowing Lines trim.
Inside, there are subtle improvements to the seats and lighting. The seat upholstery now features perforated diamond-quilted leather, while ambient lighting now features a projected Mercedes-Benz logo.
The GLS63 also receives a software update to adjust the settings for its roll stabilization and air suspension systems, giving it more precise steering and braking feel than before.
Finally, the GLS 63 is now more fuel efficient than before, boasting 14 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway according to EPA estimates.
The AMG GLS 63 receives minor updates to its engine, suspension and transmission; it now comes standard with red-painted brake calipers as well. Plus it boasts 360-degree camera system, Burmester premium audio system, heated and cooled front seats as well as blind-spot monitoring along with other niceties.
Last year, Mercedes-Benz made several changes to their SUV lineup. The GLA, GLB and GLE all received new exterior design elements as well as interior trims. Now, even the flagship model - the GLS 63 - will get an update.
The 2024 GLS 63 will feature an updated grille, larger taillights and a new steering wheel. It also comes with more standard equipment than ever before: Burmester audio system, heated and cooled front seats, panoramic sunroof, memory package and 360-degree parking pilot.
In addition, the 2024 GLS 63 will feature an AMG-specific rear spoiler and sportier interior. It boasts leather upholstery, a wood/leather steering wheel, ambient lighting in three color shades and an upgraded instrument panel.
For driving convenience, the 2024 GLS 63 will boast a 12.3-inch digital gauge display and center infotainment touchscreen. Both displays can be operated using Mercedes-Benz's MBUX interface with built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
This system also offers an Off-Road mode that can be tailored to the driver's preferences. It displays detailed information such as gradient, lateral inclination and compass readings.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz SUV lineup continues with the GLS 63, featuring dual 12.3-inch screens - one ahead of the driver for digital gauge cluster display and another on the right for center infotainment control.
The dashboard will also feature Mercedes' MBUX interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility as standard features. You can control this system either through voice commands or the clickwheel on the center console.
Other changes to the 2024 GLS 63 include new 21-, 22- and 23-inch wheels as well as puddle lamps that illuminate the ground below when front doors are opened. Furthermore, Mercedes' logo on the grille will be replaced with an AMG one and brake calipers will be painted red.
The 2024 GLS 63 will come equipped with a variety of standard safety technologies, such as adaptive headlamps, blind spot warning system and lane keep assist. Additionally, active braking systems and adaptive cruise control will automatically maintain a pre-set distance from the vehicle in front of it.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 63 has been enhanced to make driving even more thrilling. It now features an EQ Boost system that adds 21 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque when needed. EQ Boost is a 48V mild hybrid system equipped with an electric starter generator, designed to enhance performance during situations such as standing starts or overtaking cars on the highway.
This system works together with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that generates 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque - more powerful than both the GLS 580 and Mercedes-Maybach GLS 500 models combined. The AMG 63 accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 174 mph.
This SUV boasts an array of driver assistance features and off-road capability to make it a joy to drive on any surface. It includes adaptive high-beam headlights, Burmester surround sound system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and a surround view camera for added peace of mind.
Inside, you'll find two 12.3-inch screens attached to a shared bezel that serve as both the digital gauge display and center infotainment screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features, along with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot for internet access.
Customize the exterior of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 63 with a range of available options, such as Mansory Performance Package. This upgrade includes larger front splitters, an air intake splitter, new grille borders in either black or chrome, black Mansory logo and protective brush guards (available in either black or chrome).
Interior upgrades such as a dual-tone design and bright blue headliner can also be selected. Furthermore, you have the option of getting a carbon fiber engine cover or Dinamica steering wheel are other items available for purchase.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 62 boasts remarkable engineering feats and power, but does it justify the hefty starting price of $153,035? Unfortunately, no. While it certainly provides a thrilling drive, its performance doesn't quite measure up to what you pay for this luxury vehicle - starting at an eye-wateringly high amount!
