The story follows a bounty hunter who is shot and presumed dead in Maui, Hawaii; his son Ryan (Blake Jenner) must track down his killers with help from ex-partner Robbie Cole (Stephen Dorff) and crime detective Savannah (Praya Lundberg). With these tools at his disposal, Ryan embarks on his mission to uncover who killed his dad.

Throughout the movie, there are gunfights, fights, blood spurts, falls from high places, explosions and more. Furthermore, there are sexual references as well as a scene where a woman is brutally killed.

Willis seems more focused in this movie than some of his recent projects, and even with aphasia he still delivers an impressive performance. His character Ian Swan is a badass bounty hunter with a target on his back; sporting white fringe and stubble to resemble Hemingway-esque badassery ready to take on the world.

When a SWAT team raids the home of arms smuggler Eddie Flynn (Oliver Trevena), Homeland Security agent Shane Mueller mentors rookie wire room operative Justin Rosa to keep him alive during gunmen's entry. But when Justin breaks the rules and contacts Eddie directly to warn him about danger, it leads to an investigation that could reach top government levels.

Bruce Willis stars as Shane Mueller, an experienced FBI veteran who runs a high-tech command center called "Wire Room," dedicated to monitoring criminals. He imparts his wisdom to newbie wire room operator Justin Rosa (Kevin Dillon), emphasizing not leaving the room unattended or contact the target but keeping them alive.

Unfortunately, Justin leaves the room to use the bathroom and neglects to turn off his monitors afterward. Additionally, he forgets to call Shane about a car attack at Eddie's house that puts Eddie's girls in jeopardy.

Shane eventually calls back to alert Justin of the shootout at Eddie's house and urges him to protect Eddie from those attacking him. Justin begs Shane to go there and save Eddie, but when Shane arrives on scene the situation has become too serious for him to handle alone.

Wire Room is not as bad as some of Willis' later films, but it still lacks much to offer. Its characters are too one-dimensional and its plotline seems somewhat lacking. Ultimately, Wire Room doesn't quite deliver what it promises either.

Matt Eskandari directs this action-packed film, following in the footsteps of his previous projects like Survive the Night and Trauma Center. He and Willis reunite for what could be one of their last collaborations.

Willis attempts to make one last statement in this B-movie thriller remake, yet his contributions are minimal. He's supported by an equally overwrought cast and the only redeeming quality is that its action sequences are passable - especially since much of it takes place on location.

Apex

In Apex, Willis stars as Thomas Malone, a prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment for a crime he didn't commit. If he survives the hunt of six wealthy hunters, however, he will be set free from prison and can begin his new life as Thomas Malone.

The concept behind the film is novel: hunters pay a fee to come to an isolated island and hunt human prey as sport. They can arrive by teleporter, VTOL flyers or plane and stay in a house while the game is going on. Additionally, they are allowed to communicate with their target and have an advantage of three hours prior to starting hunt.

An unexpected narrative choice shifts the focus away from hunting and puts it on backstabbing opportunists who attack each other without much thought. And this only accounts for a fraction of the film, which otherwise centers around Rainsford (Neal McDonough), who claims to be an "apex predator" while spewing platitudes about how hunting represents freedom and self-gratification.

Other than that, the movie's plot does not make sense. Additionally, its actors are underwhelming and their performances lack excitement.

Willis is still a talented actor, but his recent films have all been forgettable. This one attempts to put him back on track but ultimately ends up being an unnecessary waste of time, money and effort. It's unfortunate because this could have been an excellent film but unfortunately it just isn't.
