Jimi Hendrix (1942–1970) was an American musician who recorded over 170 different songs during his career from 1966 to 1970. Often considered one of the most accomplished and influential electric guitarists, Hendrix wrote most of his own material in a variety of styles.
Jimi Hendrix learned to play guitar as a teenager and grew up to become a rock legend who excited audiences in the 1960s with his innovative electric guitar playing. One of his most memorable performances was at Woodstock in 1969, where he performed "The Star-Spangled Banner." Hendrix died in 1970 from drug-related complications, leaving his mark on the world of rock music and remaining popular to this day.
Jimi Hendrix died on Sept. 18, 1970 — three years and some change after releasing his debut LP, Are You Experienced. Because he finished only three other albums in his 27 years — two more studio sets with backing band the Experience (Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland) and one live record with Band of Gypsys — you wouldn't think ranking his discography would be too challenging.
