ContinueTeyana Taylor made headlines this year after her unforgettable performances at this year's Hip Hop Honors and in Kanye West's "Fade" video, giving an electrifying performance at both events and appearing as herself in Kanye West's video for his track, Fade. Showing off her post baby body while performing Jamaican dancehall moves was truly impressive and has everyone talking! Vogue recently spoke with Harlem artist Anais d'Abbes to learn more about her involvement in Vogue's video. She shares details about how she secured a role, what inspired the cat face scene, and more. How She Got the Call to Work on “Fade” Teyana Taylor stole the show at this year's VMAs with her performance in Kanye West's "Fade" music video, yet many are still confused by who she is and how her incredible body toned postpartum. Jae Blaze recently spoke with Pitchfork and provided some insight into Taylor's life as the subject of an NSFW clip that featured her nudly showering alongside Cleveland Cavaliers player Iman Shumpert before finally turning into a lioness in one last scene. West conceived of the entire endeavor. He approached Taylor with his idea, hoping that she would appear in his visual, which he wanted to be a "remix" of his earlier work, the "Fade" single from The Life Of Pablo album. Taylor agreed and said he gave her some choreography meant for Beyonce but which she also performed herself. "To master those moves, the only way I could achieve them was through going to my gym," she explained. "I did a lot of squats and elliptical training." However, even after months of rigorous workouts she couldn't have predicted how her post baby body would look in the video: legs had grown long while chest expanded further still! She giggled to herself. Taylor quickly garnered online and social media fan recognition from fans as well as celebrity admirers such as Kim Kardashian West, Kylie Jenner, Chrissy Teigen and more. However, her body had long since captured public eye since first making an appearance on MTV's My Super Sweet 16 in 2007. Her initial appearance became an instant network classic due to her classic 1980s skateboard theme and iconic NYC Barbie entrance, quickly making her an instant network favorite. Since then she's made numerous guest appearances on Hip Hop Honors shows, hosted a couple herself as hostess for this year's celebration and now appears regularly on VH1's The Breaks before doing stints on Hip Hop Squares as well. The Sheep in the Video Kanye West created some buzz upon taking the stage at MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. Not only did he speak for six minutes (despite only having been allotted four), he also debuted the sensuous Flashdance-inspired music video for "Fade," featuring Harlem rapper Teyana Taylor of GOOD Music along with Iman Shumpert of Cleveland Cavaliers fame and their daughter Junie as featured models. Taylor, an established singer and dancer in her own right, exuded sensuality throughout the video. Wearing an all-grey sports bra and thong, she showed a combination of athletic 1980s moves as well as Caribbean inspired choreography before joining Shumpert in a nude shower scene and concluding their joint video by reclining together with their newborn son among fluffy lambs in a field. The video was an immense hit, yet some aspects left fans puzzled. For instance, some found Taylor's transformation into a cat with a lioness' face while leaning on Shumpert and their baby to be confusing - however choreographer Jae Blaze provided clarity via Pitchfork about what this scene meant. Blaze explained that the cat represented fierceness. Along with his fellow choreographers (Fonzworth Bentley and Guapo), they developed a set of movements for Teyana to perform, such as Jamaican "bruk backs." According to Blaze, they then combined this movement with locking and popping techniques. Those looking to catch the visual for "Fade" on Tidal should do so immediately! Within 12 months she released her sophomore album K.T.S.E, embarked on an acclaimed tour and sparked engagement rumors with NBA-star husband Iman Shumpert before welcoming their daughter together. All this while managing multiple business ventures and appearing regularly on VH1's Hip Hop Squares program as well as their scripted drama The Breaks series. Kanye West has earned her widespread praise for the steamy "Fade" video he released during Sunday night's VMAs; featuring her turn in it as she performs Flashdance-like moves in an old gym. Things get particularly heated in the final scene where Taylor transforms into an exotic feline woman surrounded by flocks of sheep! As audiences were left asking: Who exactly is that cat lady in this video, Billboard reached out to Jae Blaze who directed both the "Fade" clip and shower scene featuring Teyana and Shumpert for more insight into Teyana Shumpert's cat-lady transformation and what this signifies for their 25-year-old. Jae explains that the scene with Teyana and her cat-woman image was meant to pay homage to both Harlem, where her mother raised her, as well as Teyana's passion for animals. "Teyana is known for being an animal lover and often references Harlem when discussing this part of her life, so this was something we wanted to include," Jae states. Teyana did perform her steamy scene at G.O.O.D Music's pop-up shop in New York yesterday (September 8).
