In 2011, Bravo made a deal with Norman Lear to produce this spin-off from the hit sitcom, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Three seasons later, Kandi Burruss would drop the RhoaL from her name, reveal that she has a husband, and leave the show.

Kandi Burruss previously said that, if anything, Real Housewives of Atlanta should “add somebody.” But she lamented the idea of someone leaving because fans just started to “get to know” the numerous friends and guests of the show in Season 13. But she isn't against the idea of Shereé Whitfield's return. Burruss told Access Hollywood:

People always say, 'This person shouldn’t come back, that person shouldn’t come back,’ but I feel like everybody on this cast has something that adds to the show. It’s never one person that can carry the show by themselves. It's like all of our stories combined is what, to me, makes the show so good. So I don’t necessarily say that I need to see any of them leave. (Source: www.cinemablend.com)

Kandi joined the series in season two—her connection to the group being from friend Lisa Wu. After meeting Ashley "A.J." Jewell, Kandi had the challenge of balancing motherhood, planning her dream wedding, and launching a solo career and new album. She also had to counter her mom's disapproval of her fiance, A.J., stemming from his number of kids from previous relationships. During the Atlanta series of the Real Housewives, Kandi struggled with her mother and fiance in the hopes of bringing them together, which never happened as the couple broke off their engagement in June 2009. Less than four months later, A.J. passed away unexpectedly, following a brawl outside a nightclub. Kandi's loss took a huge toll on her family and personal life. She promised to stay active in A.J.'s children's lives, who she had grown close to during their relationship. Following her loss, Kandi thrust herself into work, pushing out the single, Fly Above in late 2009. Kandi is still working on her album, B.L.O.G. and executively produced the much talked about, Tardy for the Party for fellow castmate Kim Zolciak.

With production on Season 14 on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” officially starting, Variety can reveal the cast list — as of Monday morning, the deals have all closed. Season 13’s Kandi Burruss, Kenya Moore and Drew Sidora are returning; once and future “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member Shereé Whitfield is coming back; and Marlo Hampton, a longtime “friend” of the “RHOA” ladies, has finally gotten her peach to become an official member of the cast. Additionally, track star Sanya Richards-Ross — a four-time Olympic Gold medalist — has joined the group full-time. Richards-Ross may be new to “RHOA,” but she isn’t a stranger to reality TV: “Sanya’s Glam and Gold,” about her family and marriage to former NFL cornerback Aaron Ross, ran for one season on We TV in 2013.
