If Marcus Parker gets his reality show—and based on the sizzle reel he and his wife posted on Facebook last week, I expect TLC is already on the phone—you can expect a rash of tortured articles not seen since the My Husband’s Not Gay mini-boom of early 2015. Parker, perhaps better known by his drag persona Flame Monroe, is a bisexual, self-identified transgender person who has had surgical interventions to create breasts and other feminine characteristics but who currently lives as a man when he’s at home with his three children and lesbian wife. He’s also a conservative Christian who doesn’t support full marriage equality.

It was amazing. [It] changed my life because I've been in the game a long time. My talent was always there, I knew that; I never doubted my talent. But the other issue I fought against was people not accepting me for just being a comic. They only saw what I look like, they didn't hear what I had to say. There were people in positions of power to get me bookings or opportunities for work, but because I was transgender, you would hear, "Oh, you’re working with Flame? If you’re working with someone like that, you must be attracted to that." So that stopped a lot of work for me. Comedienne, hostess, Emcee and Actor, Flame Monroe is an explosive and inspiring talent hailing from Chicago. Flame’s introduction to audiences in the United States and abroad has been anything but traditional. With more than two decades honing the art of female impersonator in clubs starting in the Windy City and now across the country under her wig, the most challenging role has been that of single parent to three academically gifted and creative children; Flame describes it as AM Dad/PM Drag!
