There's no one-size-fits-all approach to becoming a professional musician. How you plan your journey and what you do in your private life will determine not just your level of success, but how much effort it takes and how much enjoyment you derive from the process. I'm still trying to figure these things out for myself.
Daren Jay Ashba (born November 10, 1972) is an American musician, guitarist, songwriter, record producer, and graphic designer. He is currently the lead guitarist in Sixx:A.M.. He is also known for his work with hard rock bands BulletBoys, Beautiful Creatures and Guns N' Roses. He has worked with various artists including Mötley Crüe, Drowning Pool, Marion Raven, Aimee Allen and Neil Diamond. He is the CEO of Ashba Media.Eighteen years after moving to Los Angeles in his van as a teenager, Dj Ashba can claim that he is an award-winning guitarist, producer, Grammy nominated songwriter, multi-platinum recording artist, graphic design entrepreneur and member of the bands Guns 'n Roses and Sixx: A.M. With an unstoppable mixture of raw talent and hard work, Ashba has already made a name for himself in the world of rock'n'roll, and he has only just begun.
In a new interview with Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio, DJ Ashba was asked what his favorite memory is from his time with GUNS N' ROSES. The guitarist responded: "There are so many memories from that six, seven years. I think the biggest memory, when I think back on those days, it's just how probably misunderstood Axl [Rose, GUNS N' ROSES singer] is. He's just — to me; I can't speak for other people — but he's just one of the fucking coolest guys to hang out with. When he's your friend — he has a very tight circle, but when you kind of gain his trust and are in that circle — you couldn't find a better fucking dude. He's just a cool fucking dude. And we had a ton of fun — on stage and even more fun off stage." (Source:
Former GUNS N' ROSES and current SIXX:A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba recently released a couple of singles from his ASHBA project, which mixes his rock guitar with electronic music in what he previously described as the "perfect blend of rock and EDM." Asked by "The Mark And HooGie Show" if he has gotten any pushback from his rock fans over the musical direction of his new venture, Ashba said (see video below): "Honestly, I'm at a point in my career where I could give two fucks. I could care less. If people don't like it, kiss my ass. Go listen to SIXX:A.M. If what I'm doing right now isn't rock enough, I've got a rock band. They can go listen to that then.
