Allen West


Allen West is the retired lieutenant colonel and former United States congressman who currently serves as a conservative political commentator on CNN. He served with distinction in both the United States Army and United States Congress. He is a combat veteran who served in both Operation Desert Storm and in Operation Iraqi Freedo



Catherine Allen-West (she/her) is the Director of Communications in the Division for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DDEI) at the University of Virginia. In this role, Catherine is responsible for driving and implementing the strategic communications functions of the division, including the creation and dissemination of informational materials, placement of news articles, and organization of events; providing oversight of content for web and social media; and publication of the division's external communications. Catherine also works closely with communicators across the University to ensure maximum reach of accessible communications deliverables.

Before joining HSSM, Mr. West was with the firm Kilpatrick Stockton. Prior to law school, Mr. West worked as a television reporter covering politics and government for WIS News in Columbia, South Carolina, and prior to that served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a noncommissioned officer. Mr. West also has experience as a senior executive for a leading lighting manufacturing company located in Charleston, South Carolina. (Source: lawhssm.com)


After joining the Army, West served in Italy, South Korea, and the Middle East—including service in the Gulf War in 1991. West returned to Kansas State University to serve as an ROTC instructor until 1994. After spending much of the next decade at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, West was deployed to Iraq in 2003. During his more than 20 years of service, he was awarded the Bronze Star and three Meritorious Service Medals. He retired from the army in 2004, at the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Matthew McConaughey hasn't officially stated that he will run for governor, he has publicly expressed interest multiple times over the past year. In March, the actor discussed the potential run in an appearance on "The Hugh Hewitt Show" podcast.
