FutureStarrA Lil Nas X Met Gala
Before he started rapping for a living, the 22-year-old country singer known as 'Lil Nas X' was a student at Memphis University. He didn't have time to party then, but now that's a different story.
Once upon a time (read Met Gala 2019) Lady Gaga wore four outfits, one beneath the other and she revealed each in quick succession live at the fashion gala. Two years and a delayed Met Gala later, rapper Lil Nas X did something similar. He wore 3 outfits to this year's Met Gala, which is being held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Let us remind you that Lil Nas X's headline-making Met Gala look comes just a day after he wore a half-suit, half-gown at the VMAs. This is the rapper's first Met Gala experience and he surely made it count, with shades of gold and Lil Nas-ness to say the least.
This year's theme for the annual fashion gala is "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion." Lil Nas X's interpretation of the theme arrived in the form of these outfits - all designed by Donatella Versace. For his first outfit reveal, Lil Nas X wore an ornate cape that was covered in intricate gold beading. This came with a long train. The rapper removed it to reveal a golden suit of armor underneath it. Wait, it gets better. Beneath that was a bodysuit, the bodycon design covered in crystals and Versace's signature house print. One breathtaking look was just not enough for the Montero singer, Lil Nas X as he pulled off a Lady Gaga shedding layers of outfits showing the world how to make a debut at the Met Gala. While the star’s lavender number from MTV VMAs yesterday is still making its rounds in the Instagram world, he breaks his own fashion record looking nothing but regal in three different Versace numbers at the Met Ball 2021. Lil Nas’ marked his attendance at the Met Gala, which is being held today at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, for the first time serving three grandiose looks and we just can’t stay calm! Check out how he transformed from an ornate cape to a shimmery bodycon number in seconds.
This year’s Met Gala, which focuses on the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” has approximately 400 guests — a third of the normal amount in the past. Usually held annually on the first Monday in May, the event is a fundraising benefit for the Museum of Metropolitan Art in New York City. Last year, the Met Gala was ultimately canceled to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. (Source: wwd.com)
